Negative Sun
Some of you may have noticed this in my sig, but I felt it important to start a thread about this because it is very important to me and a lot of other people... "CBGB is a symbol of raw American energy – for 31 years CBGB has provided a space for new creativity in music and art, a spotlight for young talent, and a unique safe-space to pursue art and free expression. CBs has always kept its prices affordable for all music lovers, evolved to fill the needs of the music and cultural communities of New York City, and jump started the careers of thousands of performers." CBGBs started the career of the Ramones (one of my most favorite bands, the band that started Punk music!), Blondie, the B52s, the Talking Heads, the Police, etc... It has been one of my life-long dreams to visit this place and I cannot believe they would try to shut this place down...please take 5 minutes and help out, and don't think "oh but petitions never make a difference blablabla...", every bit helps, you can also send an email to Mayor Bloomberg and the NYC News CLICK HERE
CapNColostomy
Hell yeah, that place is all...historical and stuff. I signed.
RoxStar
So why are they in need of signatures, no moneys?
CapNColostomy
Yeah, their lease is up. I read about this a while back. You know, my first instinct was to say "pay yer ****in' bills" but, that place is kind of an institution. Lot's of history behind it. So if typing my name out can somehow help, no problem. If they want my money, they're ****ed though.
Negative Sun
So why are they in need of signatures, no moneys? They need signatures because they want to be treated fairly by the company who owns the building, the company pays about $16,000 a month for the whole building, and they make CBGBs pay $19,000 for just the ground floor, which is preposterous...All they want is a renewal on their lease and that the building is kept in good condition, I don't think money is an issue, it's just about the principles... El Sitherino
I guess I'm one of the only people that could care less. CBGB's hasn't had any significance in damn near 16 years. the Ramones (one of my most favorite bands, the band that started Punk music!) Bull****. MC5 did. El Sitherino
Indeed. The Ramones had about jack all to do with creating punk. All they did was push it into a nice easily markettable package. They're good, but **** if they did anything in genre creation.

"A nice markettable package", my eye, that's why they never got any airplay in the states and have always been struggling throughout their career to keep playing the music they wanted to...Johnny Ramone created a whole new genre in guitar playing, one which many people have tried to copy (but never really succeeded)...That's why every UK and american Punk band quotes the Ramones as their main influence and reason to why they started playing in the first place... If you do not care about it, please keep your half-assed opinions to yourself and go spoil someone else's thread, thank you
El Sitherino
What the f**k do you know about it? Seems to be a hell of a lot more than you. "A nice markettable package", my eye, that's why they never got any airplay in the states and have always been struggling throughout their career to keep playing the music they wanted to Bull****. If they never got any airplay, why the **** did I always see their videos on MTV? Why did I always hear Blitzkrieg Bop and Rockaway Beach, etc. on the radio an assload of times? Johnny Ramone created a whole new genre in guitar playing Not really. That's why every UK and american Punk band quotes the Ramones as their main influence and reason to why they started playing in the first place... Yeah, if by every UK and American punk band you mean Green Day, U2 (at least early sounds), and other mainstream psuedo-pop-punk. If you do not care about it, please keep your half-assed opinions to yourself and go spoil someone else's thread, thank you How about I ****ing discuss a topic on a discussion board? Or I could just lock/delete your thread if you'd like no one to disagree with you.
Negative Sun
haha you're so full of ****! And that's very mature of you, threatening to close my thread...You obviously don't know what you're talking about... By every Punk band I mean bands like Misfits, Rancid, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, etc... And I dunno what radio you've been listening to, and I meant airplay in the 70's and 80's, not now, because they get played a lot more now because they finally get the recognition they deserved because they were way ahead of their time... And saying "Not Really" isn't really a point is it?
swphreak
Play nice little ones. I have no idea what this CBGB thing is.
El Sitherino
Misfits They got most of their influence from Bowie, namely Ziggy Stardust era Bowie. Dead Kennedys Also had larger influence from classic rock, as well as lesser known, and more talented punk bands Sex Pistols They suck, so who cares. The Clash Again, more from classical rock. And then with London Calling you found the reggae influence. And I dunno what radio you've been listening to AM-FM. and I meant airplay in the 70's and 80's I know what you meant, my point still stands. In the end, the only influence The Ramones made, as far as progression of punk went, was they brought it to the mainstream.
Negative Sun
*FLAME REMOVAL'D* ~ET Go to http://www.misfits.com and you will 100% guaranteed to see that they are still saluting the greatness that was The Ramones...It's the same with all the stated bands. Ramones, Punk and CBGB are all synonimous. One last thing, type in CBGB and you will find that before the Ramones entered the building they were for folk and country...funny that NOW they are known for the Punk genre don't you think bub? *FLAME ERASOR* ~ET
