Dagobahn Eagle
Have anyone else heard of this one? It's made by the good men of Introversion, who brought us Uplink and Darwinia. In Defcon, the players start in the midst of a Cold War, at DefCon 5. As the game progresses, they will upgrade their DefCon levels gradually, gaining access to more and more weapons, until they eventually embark on a nuclear holocaust. Atomic bombs being what they are, this means that the world is dead when you start launching your rockets. Your objective is not to win, but to "die the least". The graphics aren't too advanced, but hey, graphics are secondary anyhow. Screenshot http://www.everybody-dies.com:).
jon_hill987
That looks strange, but strange is good. Nothing wrong witht the graphics.
Pho3nix
Yup, the graphics are fine. It's pretty weird though
Darth Andrew
I actually like the graphics, as they seem kinda retro. Anyway, I can't wait for this to come out.
Sabretooth
The graphics look sweet, just like a real military command screen they show in those weird sci-fi movies. I'll take it!
TiE23
I'm getting this ASAP. Anyone play Darwinia? Then this has got to be good.
Dagobahn Eagle
The Uplink demo was awesome. I do like the graphics, too. They fit in as that is what you expect to see (whether or not reality's screens are anything remotely like that is something I'll not dare guess on:D), and it gets the point across. They're also quite vivid. According to their "roadmap", they've got "Medium" confidence that they'll release a demo in October, and "High" confidence they'll release the game some time in September. It'll only be slightly more than £10, too. Swell. If you want a "real" army command game, though, play one of the realistic titles published by Shrapnel Games. B.C.T. Commander, Falkland War, Raging Tiger - they're all 100% realistic, albeit with a steep learning curve.
TiE23
I'm getting this day one.
Sabretooth
Anyone play Darwinia? Then this has got to be good. Hell ya, and it was suh-weet! I loved the feel of the game and the suitable explanations they had for the graphics. It's games like these that prove that small-time indie games are not yet extinct! swphreak
I've been watching this for awhile. Did everyone watch the videos? Can't wait for the demo. I remember reading that this game is going to be really office friendly, with a dead man switch and everything. That would totally rock at work. swphreak
Bumpage! The game has gone Gold, and is slated to be released Friday, the 29th. I went ahead and preordered it, and purchased a legit copy of Uplink while I was at it. Is anyone else looking to get their hands on it? We'll have to get a multiplayer game going. TiE23
Yeah, I pre-ordered it, can't f-ing wait! Also, on some other forums it really pissed me off that some dumbasses had already downloaded them off some torrent sites. And like a week before release. I'm pissed. But anyway, can't f-ing wait. Dagobahn Eagle
I'm looking forward to when you can pay for games via cell-phone. This MP3 site allows that (you send an SMS to the site with the ID of the album you want, the site adds the cost of it to your phone bill and sends you a pass key by SMS to your cell phone, and then you can download to your heart's content). No need for credit cards, anymore... Sweet.. On-topic: Looking forward to the demo.
TiE23
...What? What does that have to do with anything?
swphreak
Well it's a rocky start [their site being overwhelmed]... and the first game I tried with other players resulted in a lag out after I had set all my bombers on this one guy. If anyone manages to download the game and get their Key, send me an IM so we can get a small game going. I'm still trying to figure stuff out Take that you Commie bastards! Jeff
This looks pretty neat, I'll have to try out the demo.
Commander Obi-Wan
I downloaded it, tried it, played it. It's an interesting game. It's complicated. I might give it a try later.
Dagobahn Eagle
The UI is a bit trickier than it looks. I joined an MP game as a spectator just now, and made an image-documentary of sorts depicting the end of the world. The problem is that ImageShack is acting up, so my 43 screen-shots will have to be uploaded later. I think I'll try playing SP a few rounds before venturing into MP as a player. swphreak
I think it'd be more fun if we played together... I swear I'm probably not any better than you are! As for the GUI, yeah, it'sa bit clunky, in my opinion, but once I started using the 1-4 keys for game speed, it got better. I still don't know how to join alliances or anything... Some nice screens by yours truly: Radiation? Nahhh. Notice the populations? The only problem I can see is how Europe is a really cheap place to start. Because it's so small, you get major AA overlapping coverage.
