HUD and main menu discussion

So it seems that the OJP HUD is too metallic, therefore I'm going to make changes. I'm no hardcore SW fan *runs from lynch crowd*, so I'm open to suggestions. Let me know what HUD will most aptly suit OJP's and more importantly - Star Wars' - theme. However, I will not be changing most of the HUD, just making modifications to the existing one eg. changing the basic metal shell to something more SWish etc

 

In addition, good news is that my exams are over! Bad news is that I'm in the midst of a very tight schedule eg. social life, army schedule, intensive workout schedules, Doom 3 modding, but I still have enough time for OJP modding. So, I need some good ideas on how the main menu should be carried out. If I'm not wrong, I'm supposedly working with Cariss on this too. The best, most agreeable-upon idea will be picked and pushed forth ingame, so let the creative juices get rolling

 

And one more thing: Chosen One and I will be working on the first OJP co-op map on Monday. ATM I'm still trying to get my bearings back on mapping. Having not touched Radiant for almost 2 years, I may need some help on the basics *really embarrassed*. However, all of it should come back quickly, so if any of you want to just like uh...help me out a while here, it would only take a day max to get me back in business. Just drop me a PM!

I say make it light blue or light red and transparent @ the hud.

Well, I don't mind the hud the way it is, but I suppose it could be a bit smaller like alot of people have said. I would mainly change "mishap" to "balance" and "dodge" to "defense" if that's what we agreed upon naming them for overall understanding purposes.

I'm pretty happy with the current HUD. I'd probably prefer a new main menu or CoOp map myself, but I suppose it's up to what people want. :)

 

As for the main menu, I really liked the idea of just having the whole screen be of a vid of a OJP duel in progress (with the camera at a static position) and then have buttons just be on top of that in some stylish form.

I think the HUD should be a white, maybe transparent rather than the solid looking metalic color. If you want to really experiment, try a black outline with that metal inside.

 

Btw, try JA Mapping source if you want to learn how to map. Good people and really helpful.

Hey all I'm just messing around with Radiant now. I need some star wars buffs in here to help out with creating settings for the co-op maps eg. Imperials planning to launch a secret assault on Yavin 4, a group of Jedi Academy students and mercenaries are transported to the Death Star to stop the bombing; or Imperials planning to launch a secret assault on Yavin IV, and a group of Jedi Academy students and mercs are stationed at the frontlines of the Academy to protect it. Something like that.

 

Also, HUD ideas are still up for discussion

Hey all I'm just messing around with Radiant now. I need some star wars buffs in here to help out with creating settings for the co-op maps eg. Imperials planning to launch a secret assault on Yavin 4, a group of Jedi Academy students and mercenaries are transported to the Death Star to stop the bombing; or Imperials planning to launch a secret assault on Yavin IV, and a group of Jedi Academy students and mercs are stationed at the frontlines of the Academy to protect it. Something like that.

I liked the concept of that we had for the Clone Wars mod. Basically that a group of Jedi storming a droid research facility in the hopes of preventing the Seperatists from developing anti-jedi droids (IE IG-100s). The idea being that the players could fight against both normal and saber weilding droids. We were originally thinking of having it be a mini-campaign but a single map could probably do it too.

Well, as much as I like the concept of the clone wars, I'd personally prefer a setting were darker, mysterious, and more atmospheric maps can be created as far as campaigns go. I wouldn't mind maybe one or two maps for clone wars though.

I have an idea: we could create a description interface for co-op maps that will include timeline and background information. Thus, we can have maps that take place during the Trilogy period, or during the KOTOR era and such. Why limit ourselves? Let's just whack anything that comes our way :D

i always thought that this was a cool OJP video

 

Yeah thats pretty good, but its a little dated as far as the system, hud, and MB2 sabers is concerned and probably could be a little more dynamic. At least the heavy bounce conversion is demonstrated in it in a rare instance (mainly was caused by an old bug in that build that freezes the bounce :p). Man that video makes me miss fighting with MB2 sabers and my own modified version of them. :(
