MC: AOTE: Fraught With Disappointment

Beryl's expression showed her disappointment. "No door dents?" She sighed melodramatically. Then she grinned wryly at Nic. "Can I at least try to put a dent in one of the Imps?" She wiggled her eyebrows, but not expecting a reply from her captain, she went and sat down on the plain slab 'bed'.

"Well, I suppose you'd better shut the door, and take one last look at 'friendly' Beryl. 'Cause when you see me again, you know I'll have to pretend that I hate the both of you." She grinned at them, and then on a more serious note said, "Good luck."

Dr. Conway "Conn" Harlowe put the finishing touches on a particularly difficult stitch, then carefully severed the thread with a pair of scissors. Rolling backward in his chair, he flipped a switch on the underside of the operating table, causing half of it to bend upward along with the patient strapped to it. That patient, a burly ex-smuggler who went by Rafe, was helped down by two Imperial stormtroopers who marched him over to the desk at which Conn was now sitting.

Rafe licked cracked lips. "So Doc, am I gonna live?"

Conn gave the convict a smirk as he typed information into his terminal. "For now," he replied, then turned to look at Rafe directly. "But unless you stop getting yourself into fights and acquiring yourself more of those---" he emphasized the word by pointing at the newly-stitched four inch gash on Rafe's forehead, "---I do not give any guarantees to your health."

"Aw, but he started it," Rafe started to protest.

"Save it, Rafe," Conn snapped. "I am a doctor, not your mother." Nodding to the stormtroopers, he said, "I'm finished with him. Bring him back in a week for reevaluation."

The rightmost stormtrooper nodded, the white of his helmet glinting in the light of the infirmary. "Yes, sir," he replied, turning around and escorting Rafe out the door.

Conn sighed and ran a hand through his messy auburn hair. Tapping a few keys at his console, he pulled up the daily patient list. Rafe was the last scheduled appointment he had today. He smiled, thankful that he'd not have to deal with any more prisoners, when his taskbar blinked, indicating he had a new message. Muttering an oath under his breath, he opened and read it. Hmmm, new prisoners incoming. He frowned as he noticed something else. Code 36, eh. Damn. That meant it was a bounty hunter drop-off instead of the traditional prisoner transport. It also meant he would have be more meticulous in his standard examination. Great.

((OOC: I’m going to get us on to the station as we seem to keep slowing down, I’ll try no to char control too much.))

“You two.” Nic replied closing the door to the guest room/cell before walking don to the Cockpit.

The Echo dropped out of hyperspace and began to head towards the planet where the prison facility was located. Nic checked the scanners from the co-pilots seat and noticed an imperial Dreadnaught on a standard police patrol. Nic transmitted the clearance codes to the prison faculty so the Ship would ignore them and allow them through.

The Ship entered into the planets atmosphere and went strait to the Prisons landing bay. Nic walked down to the cargo bay and the rest of the crew were already there (With the exception of Beryl, Ryshana and Jack.), he stood until he felt the ship shake from the landing. After a few moments Jack came down to the cargo bay and stood behind Nic with the others.

“Remember everyone we need to convince them that we are bounty hunters. we have to be the worst scum of the galaxy. So best we act like ourselves but Empire friendly.” Nic said as he pressed the airlock open buttons on the panel. He stood in front of the door and raised his Arms up to show he wasn’t armed.

((OCC: @Stingerhs- I’ll let you control the imps incase they need to act in a certain way.))

((some information on the planet: the surface is completely inhospitable as even the atmosphere contains no breathable air. the only thing about the planet that makes it suitable is a series of force fields that hold in a atmosphere for the prison.))

The Imperial Captain looked at the monitor and sighed to himself. The Dreadnought had just passed on the codes for a landing. After sending the small freighter landing coordinates, the Captain headed out to the main landing bay accompanied by a full company of Stormtroopers.

As the Echo landed in front of them, the Imperial Captain just stood there at ease. A bit of dust flew up around the ship, but the Captain was accustomed to it as he had been serving there for the past several years. Still, if there was one thing that he didn't look forward to was that each landing from a bounty hunter could signify that a Jedi was on board. He hated having to initiate Jedi Protocol, but fortunately, he hadn't been forced to do so for quite some time.

Although the job was mostly pushing papers, the pay was good considering his rank, and he also got a chance to live with his wife. That was one luxury that few men of his rank could obtain.

As the doors to the cargo bay opened, the Captain noted that the bounty hunter had his hands raised. Must be a rookie, the Captain thought to himself. With a nod of his head, one of the platoons moved forward and pointed their rifles inside of the cargo bay. Walking forward behind them, the Captain stepped forward onto the Echo towards Nic flanked by two Stormtroopers.

"So, I'll assume that you're the Captain of this.. erm, vessel," he stated as he looked around the cargo bay. "I'll need to see your manifest, crew log with the proper ID's, and of course whatever prisoners that you're trying to ransom," he stated without any enthusiasm.

"Well we got a nice little treat for ya'." Nic replied bringing hishands down and reaching for a datapad that rested ON a nearby crate and handing it to the captain smiling a confident grin. "You'll find it's all in order... and our prisoners are a wanted smuggler and the empires most wanted.. A jedi."

The Captain quickly shot Nic a look of bewilderment. "A Jedi?! Why didn't you mention that when you coded in?" the Captain practically yelled at Nic. Without waiting for an answer, the Captain reached into his pocket and pulled out a comlink. "Initiate Jedi Protocol Alpha-One-Zero. I repeat, initiate Jedi Protocol Alpha-One-Zero," the Captain stated somewhat quickly into the comlink.

Turning back to Nic, the Captain then asked, "Where is the Jedi, and how do you have him restrained?"

Behind him, a platoon from the company of Stormtroopers quickly surrounded the ship with their blaster rifles at the ready. Meanwhile, two Stormtroopers quickly left the landing zone and headed inside. Within a minute, they returned carrying an unusual looking device, and they walked up behind the Captain and stopped.

Conn had just finished readying his inspection kit when a loud, very annoying sound came from his terminal. Sithspit, he thought. It had been a very long time since he'd heard an alert like that. Striding over to his desk, he rotated the screen to face him and clicked on the flashing alert. In bright red letters, it proclaimed "Jedi Protocol Alpha-One-Zero".

"Lovely," Conn groaned. He did not particularly like dealing with new Jedi. Something about helping dehumanize these former defenders of peace and justice did just not sit well with him. Sighing, he got up to make the necessary preparations.

After sitting in the bland makeshift cell for what seemed to her like a long time, Beryl drummed her fingers impatiently on her thigh. “Kripe, what’s taking them so long?” she wondered to herself. “Torture through sensory deprivation, that’s what this is.”

Another moment passed, and Beryl began to get worried. She took a deep breath, then closed her eyes, trying to relax herself by channelling the Force as Ryshana had taught her. “Ok,” Beryl said to herself. “Concentrate. Relax. Let it flow….” She took another deep breath, then exhaled slowly.

In a moment, she began to get that feeling, she same feeling as she had when she was flying—calm, confident, peaceful, connected. She breathed easily for a moment. She could sense new tiny ripples in what she felt, and wondered if she was detecting the arrival of the Imps onto the Echo.

Then suddenly, there was an abrupt change in what she felt. Her eyes popped open wide, as she once again disconnected herself from the Force, yet this time she had done it on purpose.

“Something’s odd,” she thought to herself. Then it dawned on her that the Imps might have some sort of special protocol when dealing with Jedi. “Great,” she said rolling her eyes. “All this ‘learning’ how to let the Force flow through me and now I have to ‘unlearn’ it.” She couldn’t let any of the Imps know she was Force Sensitive. Ryshana’s plan for them to escape wouldn’t work if she and Beryl were kept in the same section of the prison.

Beryl steeled herself, and waited for the Imps to open the door.

((OCC- I'll do a bit more towards the Nic story.))

The Captain of the Imperial Dreadnaught Reaper sat in his office looking over the days sensor reports. He hated police patrols of star systems especially ones as quiet as this one. It always meant the majority of his time was filled with the paper work he had to fill out. He had just finished the days report on the rougue coment that crashed into an ninhabited planet on the edge of the star system when his comm unit beeped.

"What is it." He asked.

"Sir, We have the access codes and the information on the database about the Bounty hunters ship." A male voice informed.

"Transfer it, Is that all?"

"Aye sir." He replied.

Moments later the Captains console had the file links to everything he needed to know about the ship that was dropping off convicts to the prison facility within the system. He spent a couple of minuets double checking over the transmitted codes when he decided to make sure the crew didn't have any outstanding warrants. He first noticed that the entry hadn't been updated for well over a year, which was a minor offence (As ship information had to be updated of verified at least evry two months) but nothing for him to get himself involved in. He decided to start at the obvious and he opened the captains profile. As the image appeared on the screen his eyes widened and he moved his whole body to get a better view of the image.

"I've found you."

"O.k Then." Nic replied as he walked away and up the ladder followed by several storm troopers. He went to open the door but stopped before pressing the button. "You guys better watch it this one is a foul mouthed fire craker."

He then hit the pen button and the doors swiped across.

Beryl heard voices in the corridor. She rose from the grey slab of a bed, and moved closer to the door.

She grinned, tongue in cheek. She hadn't done much 'acting' but she was going to do her best to convince the Imps that she was an unwilling participant in all of this. And the best way to do that, she thought, was for a well-aimed kick at the first stormtrooper through the door.

After all, she reasoned, Nic wouldn't be stupid enough to open the door himself, would he?

As the doors slid open, her foot launched--and had it not been for her quick Force-inhanced reactions, Nic's chances of having any children in future would have been dramatically decreased. Instead, her foot hit a bit lower than where she had intended to aim, catching Nic hard in the upper thigh and sending him backwards into the stormtrooper standing directly behind him.

"You ignorant son-of-a-murglak!" she cursed at Nic. And although she had intended for her curse to be more for dramatic effect, she was genuinely ticked off at Nic for being the first one standing in the doorway. He should have known that she was planning on doing a stunt like this.

((dang it, Jasra. now i have to edit this post. :xp: ))

As they went to the "cell", the Captain quickly looked over the information that Nic passed him as most of it seemed to be in order. When they arrived, he signaled for two Stormtroopers to flank the door.

After all the commotion, the Captain calmly pulled up the brief on Beryl. Comparing her to the photo in the brief, he then looked over at Nic and said, "So, this is Beryl Quitaan. Wanted for several counts of resisting arrest, one count of prison escape, three counts of smuggling illegal goods, and one count of using false documentation. Its only a formality, but what exactly were the details of her capture?"

Nic step forward to beryl and grabbed her by the shirt "See what i mean?" He said pulling her out of the room. "We got a tip off that the Jedi we got was heading towards Alderann so we set a little trap at the Alderach asteroid field. We blew out the ships engines and borded, We found the this little Schutta Flying the blasted thing."

"I see," the Captain noted quickly on the datapad. "Then you will admit that this is an armed frieghter, then? I'll have to bring my engineers aboard later to perform a mandatory inspection."

Looking over at the Stormtroopers, he then said, "Take her into custody."

With that, the two troopers quickly grabbed Beryl by the arms and secured her with their own binders. Then, they signaled Nic to remove his binders from her.

Nic Walked up behind and Beryl and began to release the binders from her, he leant in so his mouth was next to her ear. "Good luck in there and don't forget to watch your back." he whispured so no one else except her could hear.

With the binders off he looked back at the imperial officer. "So i guess you want to the Jedi now?"

With a nod to Nic, the Captain signaled for the two troopers with the strange device to come up. "You still didn't answer my question, Captain. Will you admit that this vessel is armed? I need you to declare a statement as required by the Galactic Trade Practices Act Paragraph 3a Addendum 2," the now annoyed Captain stated. If this man only knew how much I hated these little legal trappings, he thought to himself.

In the meantime, the two Stormtroopers were already bringing Beryl outside of the Echo to wait for them to bring out Ryshana. ((i'll leave it open to whether or not Beryl struggled all that much. ;) ))

Beryl didn't make it easy for the Stormtroopers to drag her out of the ship. Neither did she go 'quietly', spewing several choice and insulting comments along the way down to the cargo bay doors.

"At least you didn't get to salvage my ship, you chuff-sucking bounty-hunting leech!" she cursed at Nic just as they troopers were dragging her through the cargo bay. "Thank the pitiless stars for self-destruct programs! I'd like to stuff every last credit you get from these dwarftnut bucketheads down your rapacious throat until you choke, splutter and die!"

Beryl was really getting into her 'role' and she hoped that the Imps were buying it. If it wasn't for the fact that the binders that the Imps had just put on her were a bit tight, she might have even found it hard to keep a straight face.

"Fully licensed or not, I will have to bring in an inspection team after we're through. But that can be handled as we discuss your payment in my office," the Captain stated as he noted Nic's statement in the datapad. "And yes, you can lead on to where you have the Jedi stashed."

"Get your slimy prugnuficating hands off me!" Beryl complained to the two Stormtroopers dragging her of the Echo. She suddenly locked her knees, forcing the two soldiers off balance so that they nearly toppled off the Echo's ramp.

She was rewarded with a quick and hard blow to her diaphragm for her efforts. It took her by surprise, and for a few moments, she remained silent, unable to catch her breath to voice any more of her opinions.

"Take her for processing," she heard someone order.

As Beryl was dragged toward the hanger bay door, she glanced over her shoulder, taking a last look at the Echo. She hoped that this wasn't the last time she would see her.

She was escorted down a very long corridor, with no doors or windows, until finally, they reached a single door. Beryl observed from the corner of her eye as one of the troopers input a security code. Then the door slid open and they went through into a small holding room. Beryl stood quietly, taking note that there were two security cameras placed diagonally from each other in the corners of the ceiling.

After the first door closed behind them, the trooper input a second code to access the second door. The door slid open, and they were 'greeted' by a guard standing behind a control console.

This guard was wearing the grey Imperial-style uniform, but not wearing any armour, save for a vest. He eyed Beryl over, noting her bruises and restraints, then snorted. "A little resistant, was she?" he asked her stormtrooper escorts.

Beryl's eyes narrowed and she spat at him.

The guard snorted again, then smiled wryly as he moved closer to her. "Let me give you some advice, shutta," he said in a very cold and calculating voice. "Nice prisoners get rewarded here.” He stroked her cheek with a gloved finger. “Nasty ones get punished." And to demonstrate this, he suddenly struck her hard across the face. “Get it?”

With her hands restrained on either side of her, Beryl couldn’t even wipe away the blood she was tasting from her newly split lip. “Got it,” she said, glaring at him.

He grinned. “Good.” He handed one of her escorts a datapad. “Take her to the med bay first,” he ordered. “We’ll process her there.” He went back to his console and sighed. “Jedi Protocol Alpha-One-Zero…,” he grumbled as Beryl was led away. “I hate Jedi Protocol.”

The med bay was down three more corridors and through two more sets of security doors. “Good thing I’m not ‘dying,’” Beryl commented dryly about the distance they had walked.

“Shut up!” snapped one of her escorts. “Or you’ll wish you were.”

“Promises, promises,” she murmured under her breath, as the door to the med bay slid open.

Conn heard the sound of the doors open behind him and three sets of boots march in. He had his back to the door, still readying some of his equipment. A voice, one of the guards, said, "Where do you want her, doc?"

Her? "Is this the Jedi?" he asked.

"Naw, just a stray schutta as a bonus."

He waved behind his back. "Just strap her to the table, if you would."

"Sure," came the reply. Conn heard locks snapping into place, then more footfalls as the guards made for the exit.

Beryl waited until the two guards were just about ready to go through the door before she said, "Thanks for the escort, you starforsaken bucketheads." One of them paused briefly in the threshold, but soon they had both exited the room.

Beryl tugged at her restraints. "So," she said to the medic. "What's on the agenda for today? Interrogation? Torture? Or are you one of those sad slimeballs that just like to humiliate your ‘patients’.” She couldn’t believe that she was there for any real sort of medical treatment. It was rumoured that the Empire wasn’t very humane to their non-human prisoners, and Beryl suspected that it wasn’t much different for those that were.
