UDM
I think we should start preparing for moddb's MotY 2007. We should be able to get the big v1 release out by next year. With all the nice features coming into the big release eg. co-op maps, new main menu, revamped system, I'm very sure the mod will at least hit the top 30 mods. The question is, how do we start promoting the mod? A trailer would be good, but I don't think I can do one anymore. Reason is because I was watching the trailer again the other day, and realised how sucky it is. We need someone really professional eg. yoshi from MB2 to do it Trailer aside, anyone else got anymore ideas?
JackBaldy
Aside from a trailer? Not really sure myself. I could always go for round 2 of Jack vs JRHockney while someone films/records. X_XO==('_'Q)
madcatmach2
ive been thinking about this for a while and i agree about needing a good trailer. what i think we should do is start creating mass buzz on diff forums. i would be more than happy to do that over at filefronts forums. ive been trying to get stuff together to do it, what would make it easier would be a list of all the new stuff and some cool screens sence we have no trailer
UDM
Actually we do http://jediknight2.filefront.com/file/Open_Jedi_Project_Trailer_v2_Pre_010;64797
JackBaldy
That trailer is kind of old though, we need to show the people the new meat of O.J.P.
JRHockney*
That trailer is kind of old though, we need to show the people the new meat of O.J.P. Yeah, it would be good to have a new one, since alot of the people who saw it back then probably thought it was coming out in a few weeks and when it didn't they might have given up on it or thought the mod died or something. And don't undercut your trailer making ability. I thought your original was great and the reviewer even thought it was well done. Just because Yoshi isn't making it doesnt mean it won't be great. Get on msn There aren't really a lot of 'wow' things you can show which OJP has and other mods don't, I don't see what a trailer could show people to get them excited. Thinkin', though. UDM
hockney: heh thanks max: I think it depends on how the trailer's made. You've actually got lots to show them - the new skills menu, the new HUD, the new main menu (pending), the new combat system (which must be well choreographed to have the desired effect), co-op at play, Mb2-style sabers, possibly any potentially new game modes at play etc...there are so many things to do in a new trailer. Of course, they must be well choreographed in order to be well received
JackBaldy
Well like I said before, I am always game to be filmed to show mechanics in a cool O.J.P. Enhanced fashion. 'Choreographed' sure brings back memories Although I do not think that was ever used lol. And I agree with UDM, there are a lot of things which can be shown in trailers. I looked back at the trailer and it was very good, and now you have much more material to work with and possibly you can use my improved skills to show off intense saber fighting. Maxstate
hockney: heh thanks the new skills menu, Which features less things than the original game had.. ew HUD You can download a new hud anywhere, not really groundbreaking. the new main menu (pending) People aren't going to play the mod for the hud or for the main menu. the new combat system (which must be well choreographed to have the desired effect) I agree here as I absolutely love the saber system, but you can ask Hockney how many "WTF"'s it took me to understand why I was dying. And I hate to break it to you, noone wants to read a manual before playing. co-op at play Coop is fun, I'll give you that. But so many features have been rendered so useless.. I want deflect back and useful again. Mb2-style sabers Where? possibly any potentially new game modes at play etc. okay there are so many things to do in a new trailer. Of course, they must be well choreographed in order to be well received I don't think a trailer will do it.
UDM
It can't, but it can help us a lot. When you have a trailer, it means your game is of some significance. You know, like how moustached people can go around handing out 'sup's to strangers

That gives me an idea. Why don't we have a video manual instead? Similar to the Youtube videos we have in the manual at the forums. But instead, include it in the game download (The final 0.1.0 one). Showing a lot of the saber mechanics of the game visually and explained with some video editing/making. People with short attention spans tend to favor videos instead of reading, so it could be a step in the right direction. Maybe that along with a normal documented Manual, for players to have a choice in seeing or reading or both. Still wondering where I can get MB2 style sabers... UDM
Suggested before, but was shot down. Too troublesome to code it in, says the boss
JackBaldy
Er I did not mean in the actual game, I should have chosen my words more carefully. I meant in the zip/rar file which 0.1.0 comes in
Maxstate
I actually created an ingame demo tutorial on the saber system with some friends a long time ago, but there were too many breaks in it and no interaction with the player.
UDM
Jack: been suggested too, but again, boss says it will weigh down the file too much. Our best bet is to put it in a separate file, but then we're simply going back to the "no1 reads the manual" root
razorace
Suggested before, but was shot down. Too troublesome to code it in, says the boss Correction, I felt that it would be too hard to make it act like the basejka "moves" system where the game renders the moves dynamically. Using movies shouldn't be that hard and while it would increase the size of the download, I think it would be worth it. If you're going to be playing OJP, you're going to have broadband anyway. JRHockney*
Still wondering where I can get MB2 style sabers... No ones made them yet for the newer versions. Since changes are still being made to the cgame code, it wouldn't be worth it to make a new MB2 sabers cgame until we have a more finished beta. Someone was suppose to make one previously, but I'm not sure who. Heck, maybe we should just code them in as a menu option if thats possible? razorace
I'm in favor of a menu option. However, noone has stepped up to try that yet.
