JKLE_Cougar
OK my computer died.... actually only windows XP did it wont boot up at all so.... i took my 2 harddrives out one was SATA and the other is IDE i connected both to this computer that im on now but only the SATA is showing up and its the one with windows on it, the other is just a drive with movies and music on it, is there any reason why i cant see it at all? it is in FAT32 format but i thought XP could read FAT32... Oh yea if you must know... I was gonnna take the important stuff off of the SATA and format it so i would have the stuff as backup on the IDE drive but it wont show up.... im building a new computer once this is all settled i will convert the other drive to NTFS it used to be on a windows Me computer as a slave thats why it is FAT32 so if you guys can tell me how to see this drive in XP so i can copy stuff over to it i will be very happy
Det. Bart Lasiter
Windows XP can read FAT32 partitions out of the box, your drive is probably toast. I'd try booting up a Linux live CD to see if it's just Windows being Windows before you toss it though.

stingerhs
well, the SATA drive likely won't show up on ME since it doesn't play nice with NTFS HD's. is the motherboard picking up the drive at all in the BIOS??
Astrotoy7
have you checked disk management settings ?? Right Click "My Computer" > Manage > The Computer Mangement Utility will come up >Storage > Disk Management Is the drive shown here ?? Does system detect it ?? Does it say something like "healthy" or "not initialised?" All you may need to do in initialise the drive and format:(try right clicking over the drive as mapped in the view pane on the right) feel free to post a screenie if you like good luck ! mtfbwya
