Grim Fandango 2 - The case For and Against

OK, let's sum up the Grim2 scenario, shall we?

The Case For:

  • It's Grim Fandango, for God's sake!
  • The original GF had very strong characters
  • GF is very sturdy and still THE benchmark Adventure game
  • GF is one of the classiest, sophisticated games around

The Case Against:

  • Grim Fandango is a standalone game with a good solid ending
  • The lead designer (Tim Schafer) has left LucasArts
  • LucasArts are now known for ****ing up sequels good and proper
  • If 'Escape From Monkey Island' is anything to go by, a GF2 would spoil the game
  • Manny is gone
  • We need more original games
  • LucasArts would probably lose the sophistication and just go for humour...which would seriously suck
  • Most people don't want a sequel

Basically, there are more reasons NOT to have a Grim Fandango 2 than reason to have one. I think LucasArts should try making some more original adventure games instead of using old liscences as cash-cows (examples are Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Monkey Island)

another point is that the keyboard controls suck compared to the old point-and-click. i know that's just my opinion, but so was much of the stuff you wrote (eg, THE benchmark advanture game? you've gotta be kidding!) Everything else i though of has already been covered.

It's called character development Thripweed and there's nothing at all wrong with it. As long as the change is convincing, it's perfectly fine for a character to become different. Wouldn't it be boring if he was exactly the same anyway?

  • 5 months later...

ok manny is gone but there were lots of questions left like... what did he do in the first place? how did he die? not to mention a pre-quel option to show how domino even got to be on top.i think that a good story line would be for many to be given an assignment from the powres that be go back and fix the damage that was done by the corrupt members of the dod! as for glottis ...he could be tracked down bymanny anfd they could be the team they were in the first game. i think it would add alot of depth to the first game story by visiting the past and showing how these characters came to be.

well, they could do a game that has nothing to do with Grim Fandango. diferent name, diferent characters. BUT same graphics and the story could happen in the land of the dead.

that way it wont ruin the GF story, and we'll get to visit the land of the dead again smile.gif

Yes, NiKo's idea probably is the best...possibly you play Meché? It would certainly make sense.

i know i wouldnt like the game if Meche was the main character. i didnt like her very much to be honest.

as i said NEW characters. perhaps a whole new Time era in the land of the dead.
