You da man

This could probably fit in Ahto, but the subject is not as light. If it were in your power to control the federal budget, how would you spend the money? What would your priorities be and how heavily would you try to levy taxes or change the tax code in general to achieve those ends? We have a fairly diverse group here, so communist/capitalist/whatever, have a go at it.

Okay...

So...

Education

Medical

Law Enforcement

Military

Civil Services

Taxes

lots of other stuff i can't think of...

a very long list of things to try to balance... now i realize how hard it is to be president.

Communism is the best economic system, but it's got a major problem that makes it unfair to people who want to follow 'the american dream'. Which means getting rich. If I lived in a communist country as just another citizen no one cares about, i'd only be allowed *cough*more like forced*cough* to have a certain amount of money, nothing mre, nothing less. *cough*and never get anywhere in life*cough* everyone would have to have equal incomes. which isn't fair morally. In capitalist countries, people are given the ablity to make tons of money and live in luxury, but in communism, the governement usually hogs the money and oppresses it's citizens. Communism keeps a stable economy, but capitalism allows it's itizens the chance to reach great potential. Except that capitalism is a very unstable system. *cough*and oppresses it's citizens too by insane college costs and other crap*cough* It's kind of a stalemate between the benefits of communism and capitalism. I really don't know which one to choose as better though.

This is pretty much the way I would organize it. of course, I might rank Education as the top 1, 2, and 3.

Taxes

Taxes generate income, drawing taxes shouldn't be using more money than they make.

In communisim, you work as hard as you can and are given what you need to survive. It's not a merit-based system like capitalism, however, ANY communisim with a government is not communisim as envisioned by Marx. In his communisim there is NO government, for the people ARE the government, decisions are made on the whole, or not at all.

So...

Education:

Boost funding, balance things out, make it cheaper to get.

Medical: free medical funding all around.

Laws to change: Arms carrying rights: Citizens are only allowed to buy stun guns/tranquilizer guns for defense, more restrictions on getting hunting weapons. People who want to buy lethal weaponry would have to submit to a law enforcement official inspecting their home for 'oddities' (drugs, stolen things, etc, etc) to make sure the buyer is trustworthy.

Law enforcement: Provide better vehicles. (For example, soem stolen cars are able to outrun police cars quite well, and the bullet proof windows need improvement.)

Certain restrictive laws on trusts. No bribing the government. Higher taxes for the rich, no taxes on the poor. Certain laws on taxation of different things to things don't get rediculous, such as 12,000$ a month property taxes...

All companies that sell medications publicly (pharmacies for example) are not allowed to carry specific drugs.

Trading with other countries needs to be balanced.

Insurance companies limited to how much they can loan, severly, so that government doesn't get in debt from more loans. Government not allowed to spend tax dollars on stupid things, such as rediculous, wasteful, 30,000$ dinners, fancy homes, cars, etc, etc. Any special luxuries leaders get have to come out of their own salaries.

Military: Only homeland security. Forces only deployed to protect U.S borders and inner territory. No out of country attacks unless if the need is dire. Get rid of old, out-of date weaponry that costs too much to maintain use of. stick to only the latest weaponry, focus on defenses, not offenses. Maintain spy network.

Build up border walls better.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

1. Education

2. Medical

3. Civil Services

4. Military

5. Research

6a. Economy

6b. Reducing the current deficit

I would possibly even prioriize research above military. Gotta have the new technology to put into the military. Also, the research would hopefully remove the dependence on foreign oil.

The military needs a huge surge in the budget because most of their crap is outdated, and needs to be retired.

I would focus on Law Enforcement because cops are underpaid, and we can always use more cops. Same with education, teachers are underpaid.

Not a U.S citizen but from the top of my head.

1: not really a post on the budget, but the economy should get 1st place.

2: Education

3: Medical

4: Civil Service

5: research

6: Military

Mr president tear down this wall!

"Socialized" health care.

Bring down the trade barriers, and cut on the subsidies.

Cap and trade system with few quotas, all of wich are auctoned.

High penalties for enviromental/economic crime.

Tax/higher tax on fuel.

More spending on education.

We need to use laws to regulate the market, but we don't need the hard to implement and darn costly ones

Trading with other countries needs to be balanced.

Please elaborate

Trade with other countries needs to be balanced-

The value of money in other countries is different than that of the united states, and visa versa. The united states is importing more than it's exporting. that needs to be rebalanced. The United states needs to achieve better self-dependency.

Plus, higher taxes on fuel would make your citizens very angry. The taxes on oil are high enough.

How?

The United states needs to achieve better self-dependency.

Fair enough, though as a "free marketist" I disagree.

Plus, higher taxes on fuel would make your citizens very angry.

Good decisions aren't neccesarly popular.

The taxes on oil are high enough.

Not if the goal is to make people/companies use less of it. And to give companies a bigger incentive to be more energy eficent. Improving the enviroment, lessening the dependency on foreign oil, and at the same time giving the govt more cash to use on things like education, seems like a nice idea to me.
