Jae Onasi
This came over the announcement chat early this morning while I was playing. World broadcast: 'Greetings, Brandywine! There are very convincing tells being sent which link to a site that has cloned the appearance of the lotro.com website. All players should be aware that this is not a valid site and is in no way associated with Turbine.' I actually did get a tell a few weeks back from someone pretending to be a LOTRO/Turbine employee telling me I had been accused of selling gold and that I needed to log in to their site (the cloned version of LOTRO.com of course) to get it straightened out. I just reported them as spammers. All Turbine employees have a + symbol in front of their names when they send out tells or replies in chat, and this person didn't (not to mention I've never sold gold....). Just be careful if you get one of these fake messages.
Bob Lion54
Their forums were being hit hard by sex site spammers, too. Patience and the other community reps seem to have it under control, but the last month or so, scammers and spammers have been giving the LotRO team a lot of headaches. Almost makes me miss the gold spammers in Bree... almost. Of course, there were fun times messing with those people/bots/thingies.
Jae Onasi
At least one of those spammers was back last night. Now, what did you do to those spammers? I'm betting it was hilarious.
Bob Lion54
Yea, they pop up still, but not nearly as much as they used to. It used to be 24/7 spam in Bree. Some of the things we did were just emoting them and such, like /slap or /rude. The real fun happened when someone realized their script used the ENTER key. Someone would open a trade window with one and give them a copper coin or some vendor trash. It had the effect of throwing the script off and would stop their spamming for a while. Hunters could mess with them the best, though. If timed right, a Hunter could invite them into a fellowship and port them to a high level area, including the 'moors where they were met without mercy. heh There were other things people did, but those were the most common. There was a thread a while back about all the fun stuff to do to them. My favourites were always the pics of the level 5 Champion named "ajkshdlfh" dead in the 'moors surrounded by a group of Wargs. Jae Onasi
Heh-I might give that a try when my hunter gets high enough.
