BioWare Talks The Old Republic Endgame

News

Recommended Posts

Gaming website IncGamers recently spoke to BioWare’s James Ohlen on the topic of endgame content in Star Wars: The Old Republic and how that will intertwine with the individual class stories. “Obviously the endgame of our game is very important and something we’ve put a lot of thought into, but at the end of the day, [...]

Generally end game content is things like

multiperson raids. Where you will likely need a number of other players to help you out. These are generally done for better gear, money, or abilities.

PVP: While not MY personal favorite, it's still retty danged fun. Some people ONLY play MMO's for the PVP. There's nothing like seeing a PVP match of 50+ on 50+

Side quests: Some of the side quests are as fun as the main quests, but you might have skipped the side quest to continue on the main story.

Note I said "AFTER END GAME" not "I don't know what end game content is"... The guy clearly says “You’re going to have a really epic, awesome ending when you finish your class story arc in this game, but that doesn’t mean that your character can’t continue.” I'm just saying that that statement isn't the greatest sell for an MMO, which generally keep afloat by providing continuous play (As the major selling Point) and I don't need the "Well Bioware are gonna do it different duh" I know this, just saying :)

edit@tommy: Yea, I've Played MMO's since SWG was released, capped equipment and loots, GCW General, Instance Master :)

I gotcha, yeah. That is some pretty poor choice or wording.

That whole "however you can continue" sounds like hey you'll have exhausted all of the quests and content in the game, however you can continue to collect properties and random shiny objects...aka GTA.

The class story arc I'm sure is only one piece of the pie. There will be event story arcs and side story arcs etc. It's cool that they'll have a great moment with the class story arcs. That's one thing that I thought WoW could have improved on. My class quests with my Druid were pretty ho-hum.

Actually I don't think he is saying that, I think by 'endgame' he is exclusively talking about the content you do at the level cap.

My bad, the way you worded your response seemed to suggest you were confused about the end game.

To me it seems pretty clear. He's saying that even after finishing your class story arc, you still have more stuff to do.

I think they are being purposely vague though. Possibly using wording to entice the non MMO gamers to at least check it out.

lol, I quoted him, his words not mine, whether he means what he says is another matter.

Alright, you caught me not reading hard enough. o_Q

Since it's been getting kind of muddy in this thread, I'll just say that I'm taking the phrases

He added that the fact that each class in The Old Republic has its own story will add to the game's replayability factor.
and
BioWare has confirmed that Star Wars: The Old Republic's focus on story will not interfere with its plans for the endgame.
to say that the MMO endgame is separate from the character stories, but is not a 'walk around with everything done' mode.
