Why's Mark Hamil not doing Luke Skywalkers voice?

I wonder why? He's been in heaps of other computer games, including a lucasarts game. If any of you have played Full Throttle, he does the voice for the badguy, Ripburger. He was in a few Wing Commander games. Hamil was the voice of a character in one of the Gabriel Knight games. Yet oddly enough he won't be doing the voice of Luke Skywalker...the character that made him what he is today, in JK2.

Anyone else annoyed by this?

No Darth, you're not the only one who has been let down.

Does he think he's too good for Star Wars now? He certainly has the spare time. What can it take to record the voices? One day at the most?

Did they ask him, and he refused, or he not get offered enough money.(If that's the case that's shady of him because he should just do it for the fans for free. I would if I was him.

Someday I would really like to know the story on this.

We all know how bad it is when someone tries to "copy" another person's voice. It comes out sounding cheesy.

1. He's not expensive. He's had maybe one or two other roles besides Luke Skywalker.

2. His voice is fine, not too old.

3. Since he's going to be in there hardly at all, there's no point, and it would be cheaper. Take a look at the guy who did Harreson Ford's voice for the Indy games, it was really close! They might have a guy like that.

4. Did you know the Indy voice actor was in the TPM PSX and PC game? :D In Mos Espa, he's one of the NPCs who says "Would you mind getting out of my way." When you bump into him. :)

Was Hamil even asked to do the voice for Luke Skywalker? Does anyone know?

Star Trek:Elite Force characters were voiced by the actors of the series, Voyager. Theres a Raven game that used the authentic voices...except seven of nine. The actor for her sounded nothing like Jerri Ryan. Fortunately Raven released a Jerri Ryan voice pack in a patch later on..

Star Trek is a series(movie or tv) so it's wasn't that hard to go the actors before or after filming and say "wanna make some extra cash?". Then schedule there recording times. Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamil, etc. made those movies 20 years ago although it would be easy to contact him I doubt Mark Hamil would fly in to say a few lines of dialogue for Luke in a video game.

-or-

Why pay the original what he would demand (which would be high) when you can get a guy who sounds close for less. To me this arguement is like the Kenny Baker thing. People caused a big stir when they found out that Kenny Baker might not be in Ep II. They can still get it done without him (Hamil) and the fact that they don't have to pay him production will be less so when they calculate how much to charge an extra 50 cents will be taken off of each game. :)

Missing my 663 posts.

It seems LucasArts has tried before. Reportedly his agent asks for an obscene amount of money to do Luke Skywalker. It is a little silly since he does bit parts for games all the time for a lot less money, but that's the way it is. Maybe it'd be worth it if Luke played a more prominent part in the game, but the way the system works is that you pay people for 2-3 day blocks of time whether you need eight hours of voice recording or not. Ah well.

Hamil will always be thought of as Luke Skywalker by just about everyone. That includes producers and casting directors. He's been typecast to where has never been able to get a really good roll in another major movie. As an actor, that smarts. It's hummiliating. So he probably doesn't want to associate himself again with the roll that, despite it's enomous popularity, effectively ruined his career.

Anyway, that's the way I see it.

Yeah not everyone gets casted in the most popluar movie series of all time. Poor Mark......

:explode:

Whats with all these people taking themselves, and their careers so seriously. What ever happened to apathy!!

LEC/Raven: Hey Mark wanna reprise your role as Luke SKywalker in an upcoming game called Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast!

Mark: Yeah, why the hell not?

alternate response

Mark: No...that role ruined my "promising" careeer. I will never associate myself with Luke Skywalker again, hmpF!! (Walks out of room in hissy fit)

Recently the voice cast for Soldier of Fortune 2 was announced. Mark Hamill has a voice part in that game.... is it too much to reason that he might be working with the team across the hall at Raven and add his voice to the Jedi Knight 2 game ? Probably... but we can always hope.
