As monasteries took over the brewing of beer, women's involvement began to wane, and brewing became a male-dominated process. The monks were intensively concerned with making beer because they wanted a pleasant tasting, nutritious drink to serve with their meals, which could be lacking, especially during periods of fasting. As the consumption of liquids was not considered to break the fast, beer was always permitted. The consumption of beer in the monasteries reached astounding levels. In many monasteries, historians report that each monk was allowed to imbibe 5 liters of beer per day.

you say that as if more alcohol content is so much better, with that rationalization canadian beer and icehouse are the same(not far from the truth anyways). Labatt's is alright, tastes like a smoother Miller Lite to me tho, an dI didnt like Moltson Canadian much. Currently in my fride is Pilsner Urquell, brewed in Plzen Czech Rep., recognize that town name, its the ORIGINAL PILSNER, over 100 years old. Its not bad at all, next up tho is prolly Harps as its onsale, or Liene's red perhaps. My friend brews his own at about 23 proof, and its pretty smooth, dark too.

Cheap vodka smells like rubbing alcohol, the best vodkas don't really have a smell at all, and they are less likely to make you puke if you drink a lot of it because it is refined beter than the plastic bottle of Popov or Fleischman's or whatever 5 dollar botle of vodka college students can afford.

And on a side note, Amstel Light and Guiness Stout are the best tatsting beers in my opinion.

go away blowME, don't ruin other peoples real conversation just because you have nothing else to say.

Hey Kylilin, I had some 'premium' 35 dollars per bottle Russian Vodka on Saturday night, and let me tell you, it tasted like straight rubbing alcohol. THis stuff was much worse than Smirnoff or Gordon's, lets alone Finlandia(Finalnd d'uh) and Grey Goose(dunno) and Belvediere(Polish). I was extremely dissapointed with it, especailly after my roommate praised it so and knocked on the quality of the 40 dollar bottle of Jack Daniels Single Barrel I was partaking from on Friday night.

Any other stand out beers you wanna let me in on before I hit the store later this week?

Grey Goose is French, anything beyond Stolichnaya I wouldn't drink when it comes to Russian vodka. If you are looking for a good beer to drink, check out Siera Nevada Pale Ale, its petty good, I like Killian's Red a lot, Bass Ale is good, you should also check out Spaten, which is a good German beer.

Spaten is a 12 dollar 6 pack here, my older brother has some octoberfest of theirs, Killians I do like alot, but if I want red I usually get Leinenkugels cause its a good red also and is always cheaper.

I've never had Stoli, Ketel One is great stuff, but I dunno where that is from either, its been a long time since I shopped around for Vodka.

Sierra is also not bad, I am pretty accostomed to the bitter side of pilsners and pales

Yeah, I know, I have 4 left from the 12 pack I got last week :D

Its prety damned good stuff, the best part is none of my friends can stand the 'bitter taste' of the good pilsners, so I don't have to worry about it getting yoinked outta the fridge. :)

I got it on sale for 12.50 plus tax. It runs about 15 when its not on sale.

I found Urquell through a friend from my fraternity, who spent a summer in Czechoslovakia(when it was one country) when he wa a Senior in High School. He speaks fluent Slovak and said it was about all he drank the whole summer he was there. We ran into it at TGI Friday's of all places and have been drinking it since.

Basilisk: my liver is just fine, I only drink large quantities at once ever so often, a beer here and there is acutally 'supposed' to be good for you
