Guest Kudar Posted January 15, 2002 Posted January 15, 2002 Ok folks, we're all aware that the Zone tends to suck but for some its the only active place to play but it can be sometimes full of egotistical knobends who think that they "ownz joo" - this i'm sure is putting people of playing online, along with being rushed and beaten by so called newbies, who have been playing since the dawn of time (almost ) I think it would be an idea to have the forum community a little more active, maybe you all are already actively playing, but how about joining a league? I'm not talking about a ladder system where the goal is to be the ultimate bad ass Mother F** etc etc, just a friendly league playing against people you know for the sake of playing rather than to be the greatest player in the known universe. This is after all just a game, not a life and death situation, some people get too caught up in it. A little friendly competition amongst ourselves wouldn't be a bad thing. So I have set the league structure up. http://www.battlegroundsuk.com/league no formal fixtures - you organise games on the forum, then report them in the league and your win/loss is added. As a bonus - as I'm fairly certain a set up like this would eventually split into 2 groups divided by a gulf of points - players get rewarded if they beat players that are above them in the league! http://www.battlegroundsuk.com http://www.battlegroundsuk.com/league
duder Posted January 15, 2002 Posted January 15, 2002 Great idea Kudar . I've just signed up, and I hope that many others follow. The Dude abides .

Telemental Posted January 16, 2002 Posted January 16, 2002 I signed up. I've always been tentative about playing online as opposed to throwing LAN parties, maybe if I can find a group of people to play fairly and squarely with I'll get over it.

FeldmanSkitzoid Posted January 19, 2002 Posted January 19, 2002 The reason I don't play online is because it's too impersonal. I can play offline just fine. I play offline to practice up so I can play my friends in the game. When you're playing with friends you can chat, and goof off if you want to, and join up and form strategies together, etc. I don't play on Zone or any other game service (this goes for all games) because I don't know who I'm playing. They could totally stink at the game, and I might end up whomping them in 15 minutes, or I could be totally throttled by some super-strategizer, or I could play for an hour before realizing that the guy I'm playing against is a total ass. Every once in a while you play someone who's cool, but it's still too impersonal for my taste. I'll stick to the offline game. Sure, the computer can be a bit predictable, but it still offers a challenge. That said, I might try this forum play thing you suggest. I've browsed these forums off and on for several months before actually posting myself (and I'm really getting into it - I've posted about 5 times today, at least) and most of the people seem to be pretty cool. But I'm going to wait until I finish the single-player campaigns. I want to be sure I'm not going to be completely hosed.
Chessack Posted January 19, 2002 Posted January 19, 2002 You've mostly enumerated why I have, thus far, avoided online play.

Rogue15 Posted January 20, 2002 Posted January 20, 2002 Originally posted by Ten-Forward This games air units suck...thats why I don't play online..hovering air units??what a joke... at first they seem to, learn to use them, and they end up costing the enemy the game. I thought they sucked at first too, but with those upgrades, the enemy troops are bantha fodder!
