If it is lava, then it doesn't really seem to fit that well. Maybe it's a ploy to attract more Quake players...after all, it seems to be obligatory to put lava pits in all of the Quake games...

Very good point. I forgot that lava pits have a pheremonal effect on Quake players. We must welcome the Quakers with open ar-... lava pits.

bring back the ice planets...I love icy worlds in games

Preach on! It is interesting how so many of the icey/iceworld levels of many games are often the most fun. Hoth on SOTE, the robotics facility in Dark Forces, the treacherous mountainside levels of Rune, the iceworld of Bane in Battlezone2, etc.

I liked the icy levels in Hexen too. ;) Slipping around on ice sheets is so much fun. Pity my mod idea for Rune never got taken up...ice-skating, with big swords, and using a severed head as a hockey puck... :D

Hello everyone.

I took a look at the lava. it's definitely a canal of some kind, the 'bridge' thingy is seen often over those sort of things. The real bridge is in the process of coming out at the time of the shot..

Now, the question is: Why is that one section left open, when the rest (to its left AND right) is covered? Being experienced with both games, i think we all know that rarely is something added for no logical reason..

There is the possibility that it isn't always flowing, that there are locks that controll it, and sometimes there is lava and sometimes there is not. This would go real well in the case that they are mining...its just a question of what they are mining...

If this is so, then it gives the open space a number of different uses as an obsticle:

a) That Kyle will need to use the canal empty to gain entrance to another part of the level in 'race agianst time' style..

b) That the canal goes haywire and begins to overflow the area.
