dynamic lighting

Does Jedi Knight 2 have dynamic lighting? I remebember hearing that the Quake engine doesn't have dynamic lighting.

For example shooting in a pitch-black area with a weapon that lights up the surroundings, the area will still be pitch-black.

That would suck with a lightsaber...

It does. it has very very good dynamic lighting. Check out some of the screenshots where shots have been fired. They all light up in that little section, and make the ground around that area the colour of the shot.

I'm hoping with the lightsaber, we'll be able to stand in a pitch black room, facing our opponent in MP. You can stand there with your saber not ignited, then both ignite it and it will light up the area round you to that colour. That'd go off!

And welcome to the forums :) See that long queue over there, full of angry, anxious people, waiting to see Stormhammer? That's for the chocolate jedi medallions. Go that way :)

I know quake 3 had dynamic-like lighting, or maybe it can be called dynamic lighting.

The difference is that Quake 3's dynamic lighting lights up a pixel the way it is when you see it and not the way it is with no lighting applied to it.. (at least i think so)

In Unreal tournament when part of a texture is black and you apply lighting, the original texture is used as a reference. so if the original texture was red, the lighting will 'uncover' a red texture.

In quake 3, when part of a texture is black it actually IS black. So when you apply lighting it will be lit up using black as the reference color...

I might not be correct about what i said. I'm not an expert on the engine, but I did notice that in Elite Force, using the Quake 3 engine, pitch-black corners stay pitch-black even when you light them up with a laser weapon...

<font color=cbcbff> haha, nice sig, StormHammer. Although with a supply of Chocolate Jedi Medallions™ out in the open like that, it would be possible for someone to take a handful without getting caught.

Yeh, maybe it was jsut a glitch in EF or maybe it's the setting u have it on?

*jumps out corner and hits Obi on head while he's running almost swiping it off. Robs him of his stolen Jedi Medallions and jumps on chairlift*

"muhuwhaahahaha!!! this is my 3rd criminal offence!!!!"

EF is Q3 based, and JK2 is Q3A based, right?

Either way, I think TheAlbaniac is right. [/quote

Q3 IS Q3A (Quake III Arena)

But JK II is based on Q3 TA (team arena, x-pack)

It is enhancee with Ghoul II (SoF II's hit location system), Icarus (EF's system for ai teammates) and maybe SoF II's system for making weaving grass and the like (forgot name)

I would be completely and utterly shocked if we didn't see dynamic lighting in JKII. After all, even DF had dynamic lighting to a certain extent.

Edit:*With his saber handy*

uhhhh.......I didnt actually think this thread would be dum enough to be discussing about if Dynamic lighting would be used.......lol.......I can give you a definate YES there, unless Raven want to make complete fools of themselves. All games have it to an extent, however little. And IF it isnt used then Raven will have a good reason for not including it......but somehow I doubt they wouldnt put it in. And anyway, Quake 3 doesnt have true dynamic lighting, but does anyone really care, the reviewers certainly didnt.
