But, in no means is 64 bad...you might as well support that many if the technology permits it.

Yea, thats a very good point. There would be no strategy or skill, just mass killing :).......fun fun

Well, with a good connection 32's no prob in RtCW

With good server it can be as good as 30-40 ping with dsl ...

mmmmmmmmmmm.........I suppose it depends on the server your using. With my old schools dual isdn line I used to get a ping of 3 :)

The only way to defeat them: Camp!

A little fun interactive program for Godlike bots: (maybe the UT programmer used it :))

do

{

If (you != camp)

bot == killer_machine;

for (killer_machine = 1; killer_machine <= player_dies; killer_machine++)

{

killer_machine.rocket(locked==always);

killer_machine.enforcer(firerate::5x);

killer_machine.armor(500+shieldpacks);

killer_machine.health(500+healthpacks);

killer_machine.view(view_range==MAX);

}

Else

killer_machine==offguard;

killer_machine.health(offguard::0);

killer_machine.dies();

killer_machine.close();

} while (player_keystroke == 'firebutton');

Remember too there are bots. You could play with 5 people say and create 20 bots and play with 35. That wouldn't be too much lag would it? I'm no expert but it seems that 5 computers communicating would take less effort than 30.:confused:

Sorry if I seem comp illiterate, but it seems like that would be even slower. Sure, you've got less lag, but you've got 5 processors running 30 AI programs. So less lag, but slower game.

For those of you that seem to think that only lag affect gameplay I give you this. On Diablo II I sometimes play single player online so that I can have realm characters, but still solo and have no lag. The one difference that that makes is this: if your comp has to take extra time to load, the rest of the game keeps going. Sometimes I'd zone (EQ terminology) and go down to a framerate of probably...ohhhhh... .2fps. Yes, that is 0.2fps. I'd sometimes see 3 frames, the last one being my dead body. So, yes, how much your processor is trying to do DOES affect the aparant lag.

I just want everyone to know that there are "over" 20 levels and "over" 10 weapons. Keep in mind, too, that 64 players is the theoretical limit of players in Quake 3, assuming everyone has uber hardware to run the server and the bandwidth to support it. I think 32 players is a more reasonable estimate and I think that in most games 16 or 24 is more realistic/practical.

Thought I'd give everyone a "heads up."

Have a great weekend, guys and gals!

I did think that 64 was pretty big. Still, 24 beats JK's 4 player games! (on the zone)

Actually JK supports 32 players, and Zone just manages the game so people find each other, there are more than one way to play more than 4 players on Zone aswell. I've played in games with 8 - 16 players. Fun fun fun! Lag lag lag! =)

JK2's netcode is probobly alot better, and it will be intressting to see how many ppl you can cram into one game, though I don't think anyone will go above 32 anyways cuz you'll lag like kwazy! (But it'd be very cool to take screenshots!)

But JK is fun with just 2 players cuz of the Lightsaber, lightsaber duels rock! And if they get the feelin right JK2 will own as JK did by all means!

Bah, 4 players was a Zone limitation, not JK. Now for dialup, having more than 4 was a joke, but I played many 8 player games and enjoyed them very much.

I remember cringing though at hearing about "8 players" from IGN.

Heck, nothing like 16 player games of UT/Q3 to spoil you. ; )

Considering that JK II's netcode is from a almost online-mp-only game, I figure it may be better, yes ...;)
