"Floating" guns?

I know most people are striving for realism (allthough StarWars is purely fictionnal) and others just want to have a sci-fi filled world.

I don't really stand for either sides however there is ONE thing that bugs me. Floating and/or spinning guns! I hate it! I don't know how it was done on Q3 or EF but in the recent screenshots we see Stormtrooper rifles just magicly stand on the ground.

I hope Raven addopts the Counter-Strike look. Where the weaspons fall to the ground as they should:

I hear what you are sayin Jackal; that bugs me a bit also. Actually what makes me more up set is random First Aid boxes with big redcrosses on them. Come on now folks; i dont think the Red Cross is over in the SW universe as well.... Bacta tanks were a little easier to swallow. :D

I suppose that we need to remember that this game shouldnt be overly realistic; thats not its purpose (with respect to the additve sabre thread as well)

Anyone else from OWK.net rmember some of the initial descriptions of Obi Wan's physics engine? They said that if you force pushed in a room, EVERYTHING would move proportionately according to its weight and distance from obi wan. There was that video shot where obi forced pushed in a room and the light swung and cast the correct shadows on every element in the room.... that would be cool. Probably wasteful, but cool.

<font color=cbcbff> Yeah, I don't like the floating guns/items either. Back in the old-days when games didn't really immerse you graphically or looked cartoony to the point where realism wasn't an issue spinning items were fine. But in todays age when we have games that are fastly approaching movie-like realism, the spinning guns are a little out of style. I can't really think of any recent games that haven't used the "laying on where they fall" approach. I definitely prefer it.

"And then there are those cases where we didn't read the post... I'm not familiar with this thread... unfortunately, we cannot read every post. I will say that, in SP, none of the pickups spin or float."

Go here to see it in context :)

I don't think there is anything wrong with the weapon floating where it was last dropped. I think all the Quake-styled game has that...except Half Life. Serious Sam has circling weapons, which is worse than floating :)

Why don't they make backpacks like in JK?

Sturmgewehr: ...We have to remember that the game is still under development. If everthing was already perfect, the game would be out by now.

Agreed, if everything were perfect, we'd be playing it now. Also, there are no dates on any of the screenshots. They could be from several months ago..they could be from yesterday. But I'm guessing with the Raven/Activision/LEC mix, things like screenshots don't get approved for release in a day or a week. Finally, ChankKhan stated that there will not be any sort of floating/rotating weapons in Single Player....so unless he's lying or mistaken, there's not much point in "beating a dead horse".

Sounds like floating, spinning weapons won't be in the game. I wasn't really bothered by them, but the more realistic the better.

i can see where everyone is coming from... hating on the floating weapons cause they DO look really corny just floating in a perfect upright position and spinning.

but i have a question for all yall out there... especially JACKAL, who started this thread:

since you want OUTCAST to adopt the COUNTER-STRIKE look and feel, are you saying that you want weapons / ammo to be picked up only when you push a "pickup" button ala CS... or do you just want it to follow along with the previous games, and almost every other game out there, with automatic pickups?

i can have it either way... i just hope that there aren't too many weapon and ammo pickups to begin with... so players who are all into realism (which seems to be the thing with games now) learn to conserve their ammo.

PS. does anyone know the status of the RELOADING issue? is it in or not? i hope it is...

If I had to theorize, I'd guess that there aren't going to be reloads, and that the weapons will be automatically picked up. I, for one, like the auto pick up. And I doubt that reloading will be an issue, since it would be inconsistant with the previous games.

Good point Brick. There isn't a lot of Reloading in the movie's either. Reloading is more realistic, but it can be a pain.
