New Indiana Jones game!

I just visited The Collective Studio's official site. They have developed games like DS9: The Fallen and most recently Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I don't know about Buffy(good looking visuals though), but The Fallen was actually a good game: I think it was better than what DS9 the series would have deserved and really stood up, even though it was a little bit short and didn't have multiplayer. Nice to hear, that LEC has once again made a good deal with great team. I wonder will they use Unreal Tournament(or perhaps move to Unreal 2) engine, because both of these games seem to utilize one... :)

I know many of you would like to see MP feature in this game, but I doubt it will have one. Why? Because unlike in SW games where there are a lot of colorful, excellent characters you can play in MP, Indy MP might only have skins of Indy himself and perhaps his women, enemies and allies; seeing too many Indys on same level would be TOO much(deathmatch :freakout: )! I think The Collective/LEC could allow editing of it instead, perhaps add co-op where only one of the players would be Indy himself(while others help him to get over obstacles and numerous enemies) and even come up some sort of Random Mission Genetor similar to that one in SOF2. I think it would work quite well here, because Indy have always had numerous both small and big adventures, when trying to find different treasures; the valuable artifacts would be protetected by tribes, for example, OR you had to fight againts enemies who are hunting same artifact. What do you think?

you know, i really think indy4 was one of the most underrated games ever.... the controls almost single-handedly killed what could have been an all time classic game.

i remember being really disapointed when i first played it.... struggling while i seemed to run in treacle and turn VERY SLOWLY while being attacked and killed. but playing it again a year or so later it was much more fun. It definately had soem of the best puzzle/level design of any game ever... better than JK in many instances... much better than the "find the key" gameplay of Lara.

hope they keep the level designer on... and don't turn it into a generic 3rd person game.

still sulking about them making Buffy console only for no reason. grr.. selfish *******s!

Are we talking Infernal Machine? If you are, you're absolutely right about the controls. I persevered for all of 10 minutes with the demo, and the control and responses from the character auto-killed the interest I had in the game up to that point.

If it had been as responsive as Tomb Raider, I would definitely have persevered. I can't remember now...but did IM have mouselook?

All I can say to Lucasarts is...make sure you can control the character's viewpoint with the mouse! Using the keyboard for looking around is no fun, IMO. I have a keyboard and a mouse attached to my PC, and I like to use both. :)

Maybe someone should consult Raven on the best way to control a character in the 3rd person, because they got the responsiveness more or less right in Heretic II (complete with mouselook and it looks like JKII is going to be even better. :D ).

If a future Indy game could deliver that, while allowing you to do all the things Indy does...I'd be pretty interested in the title. :)

no mouselook....

it controlled just like Tomb Raider (except running in mud), and they marketed it as a tomb raider clone... which is a bit of a shame as owed more to the original indy adventure games as far as the puzzles went.

Didn't indy use the MOTS engine?

Yeah, but LEC modified it much further: it supported both 16 and 32 Bit Colour Depths(not so long ago JK/MotS modders found out that original Jedi engine supported 16 Bit textures), added Double and Triple Buffering etc. In my oppinion it was nice to see that old engine looking a little better, before it was buried completely, but those controls and slow animations dragged it badly. Still there was some cool levels, and driving with jeep, for example, turned out be fun. I'm quite sure that LEC have learned from these mistakes and besides, it's Collective's job to bring Indy back. :D BTW, I was wrong when I said that both DS9 and Buffy use Unreal Tournament engine; only former one had it, while Buffy seems to feature Collective's own engine. I wonder, will Indy use that same engine as Buffy, if effort on that one really "were a key component in determining this relationship"?

the screenshots on the box still look nice... but the game didn't look quite as good.

i think the lead designer was the bloke who did Fate of Atlantis (still one of my fave games of all time)... hence it being much more adventure gamey than they made out (since TR was all the rage then, and adventure games were dead).

And i am sure a lot of the level designers had worked on JK/Mots. The levels had that same feel. Actually, the biggest worry i have is that by outsourcing both this game and JKO they will loose the original level designs and adventure elements, and turn them both into pure (good) action games.

Instead of the "find the key", "open the gate" type levels it had the sort of puzzles that had you re-arranging the entire level (or at least it felt like it). Flooding pools, moving prisms on top of pyramids, planting a flower and making it grow...

and the rolling boulder was cool.. :D

i think indy will use the buffy engine...i read that somewhere. Looks nice, but not much info is available.
