I love upgrading unnecessarily! (grin)

I own a P4 1.6GHz with 512Mb RDRAM, a GeForce2 with 64Mb DDR RAM, and a set of Cambridge Soundworks FPS 4.1 speakers (the subwoofer's on the floor under my desk for maximum bass goodness).

My wife and I got our tax refund from Uncle Sam last week. While brainstorming for ideas on what to do with my share, it ocurred to me that I have enough to upgrade my graphics card.

Woohoo!

As part of my continuing effort to have more power than I will probably ever need, I began looking into getting a new GeForce3, completely unaware that nVidia had released their newest marvel, the GeForce4 Ti 4600 - the "flagship" of their new GF4 Ti line. I learned of this just a day after these boards had shipped to retailers - two days ago.

I immediatly surfed over to PriceWatch.com and found one from VisionTek for $377. I paid another $16 for FedEx 2nd day air, and as soon as the store I ordered it from receives their shipment (expected in-stock date 3/26), I should have it in my geeky little hands just shortly before JKII arrives on my doorstep!

This is, indeed, a good time to be alive!

I got my GF2 no more than one month before nVidia released the GF3. Suffice it to say I was not happy. This is the first time in as long as I can remember that I've actually managed to get new hardware immediately after it's been made available to the public, so I'm doubly excited.

That can be a bad thing sometimes, but I think that they are getting better at working the bugs out of new hardware. I did the same thing with the GeForce 4 Ti 4400. I got the 4400 instead of the Ti 4600 so I could buy an Athlon XP 1900+ so I can do my yearly upgrade. ;)

Thanks.

Admittedly this upgrade would not have been possible without the assistance of the US Govt. My wife and I enjoy a healthy income with no kids, but we are not rich.

I'm just sorry it seems to be a universal constant that hardware will always progress faster than the games being developed.

Ah, well.... at least I'll be able to enjoy some sweet tech demos until Doom III, Q4, and Unreal 2003 are released.

hehehe

When talking about Unreal 2003....are you referring to Unreal Tournament II/Unreal 2? If you are then you should be happy to know that UT II is scheduled for the end of June 2002 and Unreal 2 is scheduled for the end of December of 2002.

It has been well over a year since I bought anything PC related except a few games..
