There are no such thing as Noobs!

Raith

Recommended Posts

I have been browsing thru this Forum for the last couple of days, and one thing I have noticed, and its the same on RTCW Forums, that really gets on my tits, It the mythical use of the word Noob. How on earth can people call 2 different types of gamer the exact same word.

There is no such thing as a Noob

Person who is new to a game and lacks experiance = NEWBIE!!

Person who is experianced in a game but uses cheap tactics = LAMER!!

maybe that will help

It's called L33t sp34k...

There's also no word spelled leet/l33t/1337... no word spelled h4x0r, sux0rz and L4m0r... though ppl use it. It's a gamer slang.

N00bs = Newbies.

I posted a thread saying the same thing the other day Raith. Someone deleted the thread though. Screw this forum. And screw you PissedJedi. I don't want to visit a ****ing forum where the moderators side with idiots.

There are no newbies, n00bs, or any other derivative of the term here...simply those seeking the path to enlightenment. :D

Call them Newcomers, or Padawans. Be nice. Be happy. :)

Be...*...fizzle...snap...whir...*

Be Good...

Be Vigilant...

Behave! :eyeraise:

Rob_Roy I don't know what happened to your thread, but I can safely say that none of the moderators judge anyone posting on these forums as idiots. Everyone is entitled to state their opinions, as long as it's in a civilised and reasonable manner. Please don't insult or flame other members, because we don't appreciate that here.

As Sturmgewehr said, I posted a sticky saying off-topic threads would be moved, so perhaps it was moved. Threads that turn into flame wars are usually closed, and it is rare that a thread is simply deleted, unless it is serving no meaningful purpose whatever, i.e, spam. If a thread is deleted, I certainly endeavour to inform the topic-starter the reason why.

Oh, BTW...as this topic is not discussing the game JKII...it is being moved to the Swamp. ;)

Ok Raith. I have been nice to you. I have posted winks every time. But it seems you don't get it. TAke a Friggin Chill-pill kid.

I can be really nasty if you want? They don't call me PissedJedi for nothing. Do you want to see the pissed side of me?

Cause your posts have been pretty pathetic. Jeesus chill with the whining and enjoy the game.

Okay, let's just try to get along, please? Just try to respect each other's opinions, agree to disagree or whatever. Insulting or being nasty to each other won't resolve any differences, and it will only end up in inflammatory remarks being deleted. So...don't worry...be happy...

n00b has turned into a very derogatory remark, and I for one am sick of being called one.

If I'm not very good at a game or use a cheap tactic, some pathetic no-life calls me a "fu--ing n00b!1!!1!!1!".

I'm sick of it. Call me a lamer or something. But n00b is just such a stupid word....ahh gives me the cramps just thinkin' about it!....ugh...ouch..

Noob gives you cramps?

Um ok

Now this is too much. Folks are blowing this out of proportion.

Noob is not a curse word. They are not Dragging your mom's name in the mud if they call you a noob.

Jeesus christ there are worse things that one can be called.

And I have been pretty much called all of em in my life.

Noob is nothing. It's a little child's creation on the internet and folks are putting way to much stock into it.

Thanks for this post because now I have a great idea for my new sig.

WOOOT!

Well... The word "N00b" indicates that you're a user of "L337 sp34k"...Now, Elite Speak, was initially invented by a group of hackers who thought they'd like to distance themselves from the general online population...They did this by speaking online in a manner that other people would be able to read and understand, still doing it differently...

So basicly, using it seriusly means you're trying to distance yourself from other users, and make yourself look more "cool".

This is often frowned upon in online communities, and I believe that would be the reason for this topic...

I personally hate the word "N00b" because you're letting someone know that you think he's inferior to you...The other option is stating that he's just plain new, and thus treating him like that-

For the record, refering to somebody as a moron or similar(like a kid who needs a chill-pill) because of an oppinion they have is generally known as bigotry. (which doesn't allow for much open discussion, doesn't come of as contructive, and really isn't something other people are going to like you for)

Calling someone a moron is just as bad, in my books, as calling someone a newbie. I was making the connection there and waiting for someone to point it out, like yourself.

Both words demean the other person, and make them feel stupider and smaller than the agressor.

Unfortunately no matter where you go there will always be a**holes, even in the virtual galaxy far, far away. It is a sad fact of life that new people will always be targeted by jerks who know their way around a little better. They will never stop saying n00b, newbie, or newb, nor will they stop force gripping you and tossing you over the edge of the pad on Bespin, and they'll never be nice to you.

Here are my suggestions for not letting these sad little people ruin your fun:

1) Ignore Them - the reason they call you n00b is BECAUSE is pisses you off. They like that.

2) Look around for servers where that kind of stuff is frowned upon. FES Public & ******* Free are a couple of good ones.

3) Don't engage them on their level - you will lose, they practice all the time being idiots.

4) Join a clan with folks you like to play with and who will show you all the neat tricks really quickly so you don't look like a n00b. - btw NOMAD is recruiting, anyone interested drop me a line.:fett:

I honestly did not know what a "n00b" was until I joined the JKII Forums. We members of the LFJA frown upon such things, and came together to resolve the problem of persecuted new members and work together to educaat them on such terms to avoid embarassment.

I myself am not new to computers, but realitively new to the Internet. (since 2000, really!)

The LFJA was my escape(hosted under hosted communites) My master(Yoda623) educated me on such matters and I have become more wiser because of it.

The term "newbie" has not yet made it's way to the textbooks I have read, but it's term has made it's way to a couple of classes I have been in, so that may change soon.

The LFJA are commited to helping anyone overcome the fear of embarassment by forum members, by expanding on the rules set forth by LucasForums, and adding a set of rules of our own, to ensure the respect of each and every member.
