lol!

Youngins!

It's a shame most people who play these games nowadays haven't had the chance to experience 4 player doom. That was pure bliss, no game has quite captured the feeling of excitement that Doom Multiplayer had.

But I digress!

Dark Forces is great, I never did finish Jedi Knight, but Jedi Outcast picks up the torch and carries it with pride. Great games ;)

Never liked Descent. Doom however... a gem. I recall when my friend, who now makes games for the XBox, was raving about this game that was about to come out... the game was going to be like Doom but totally in 3D. It was going to be called Quake. Hehehe... I thought it was a weird name. :D

this brings me to another question: who came up with the names for ID games?

Doom, Quake... words that don't have to do a thing with first person shooters, weapons or other things related to that... ok, doom has something to do with the game, but quake?

maybe the guys were stoned while inventing the names, that would explain a bunch of things

Yeah, DF and JK (and MotS) are still good games today. The graphics don't really bother me that much. JK wasn't even the best-looking game when it was released (Quake II had the edge, which was released in the same year), but in terms of gameplay it was unparalelled. It was the first FPS game I played that had...

1. Secondary fire for weapons

2. NPCs to protect

3. Strong and compelling storyline

4. Choice of 1st/3rd person

5. A decent melee weapon (the lightsaber)

6. Force Powers - which introduced a whole new element to the gameplay

7. Real actors in the cut scenes.

8. Vast (and vertical) levels

9. A choice of two endings dependent on your actions

10. A timed level that swayed and had you walking on walls (the falling ship).

It's a pity a lot of games still fall short of those kinds of innovations all in one package even now... :(

contact your sound card mfg.

98 should be easy to make work, but will need some work for it.

GL

ps: you could try and pick up a used soundcard from a used computer store..... but depending on what kind of computer you have, it might not do any good.
