razorace
As long as I get Star Wars, I don't care what type of fancy stuff he buys with my money.
Kurgan
Several DVD editions of the Star Wars classic trilogy HAVE been released (in countries outside the US) but (as far as I know) none of them have been OFFICIALLY liscensed through Lucasfilm, and so, for all intents and purposes, would be considered "bootlegs." Several places (including Amazon.com) ADVERTISE or list that they have the SW trilogy DVD's, but this is just wishful thinking, and a placeholder until they are finally released (read the fine print and you'll see). You might be able to "pre-order" them, but you may have a long wait, if GL keeps to his word (releasing all the films as a boxed set after Episode III is released). Basically, the best experience you can get with the original films (SE or none) is through the Laser Disc versions which are perfectly legit, and have been released with just about every VHS version since they came out (LD's are dead in the states, but in places like Japan they are still being released...). Now there ARE vcd (video-cd) versions of the films, which I believe are 100% legit, but again, not released in the US, but other countries where those mediums are more popular with consumers. As an added bonus, some DVD players CAN play VCD's as well, and most PC's can quite easily. One good way to find these other versions of the films is through places like ebay, but you take your own chances there. When the DVD versions do come out in the states, for real, I hope they include the original versions of the films, and not just the SE or super SE (if GL plans to add in the Prequel stuff, further updating his old films). Barring that, another nice way to get cool captures is to use a TV card (check pricewatch, a good one can run $75 or less) and run it in combination with your LD player or TV/VCR with the flicks. Btw, great to see this thread is still going strong. Love the new pics!
razorace
Thanks, Kurgan, that's what I figured. And I'm with you, I want the original version and the ultimate edition on DVD. It's the kind of thing you can show your childs. "Yeah, back in my day, they actually BUILT and FILMED models instead of all this digital stuff you childs have." And embarissesse the hell out of them. hehehe.

Lunatic Jedi
Be reasonable, Razorace... how about every other frame?
Reiver
So, here's a run down. A New Hope (original-1977) 121 minutes Empire Strikes Back (original-1980) 124 minutes Return of the Jedi (original-1983) 123 minutes A New Hope SE- 121 minutes Empire Strikes Back SE- 124 minutes Return of the Jedi SE- 133 minutes The Phantom Menace- 131 minutes Attack of the Clones- 132 minutes I'm not throwing in those Ewok movies and the cartoons, because they truly aren't Star Wars. Now, you want every other frame. Most movies run at 30 FPS so I'll use that. Half of 30 is obviously 15. 15x60 is 1 minute, or, 900 frames. Adding it all up, Razorace wants: 207,149,397,510,021,100,000,000,000 frames Lunatic Jedi wants 135,746,987,550,105,600,000,000,000 frames What a massive amount of Hard drive space. I can't beleive I actually added those up. My finger hurts.
Kurgan
Pardon me if I'm wrong, but I always thought it was 24 fps for most films, not 30... Anyhow, you can look up some of that stuff on http://imdb.com

razorace
You wouldn't need ALL of the SE movies, just the parts that are different.
