What do people mean by "Your Momma"? Over here in OZ I have never heard anyone using this as a comeback to an insult.

I'm asking because I hear a lot of Americans saying it and it just seems very generic to me...

Whats so insulting about those two words?

I think it's meant to imply that whatever insult you were issued would also apply to the insulter's mother. I've noticed this more when I was growing up in a rural area, but people tend to take much offense to having their mother insulted. I'm talking enough offense to to start a fight in many cases.

Playing in the pit band of a musical at the moment... 'anything goes'

at one point someone on stage asks "whats the dog doing in the swimming pool?".. and the bands sposed to reply "the dog paddle!"

on my score, the last person crossed that out and wrote "yo momma"

it would be funny to have everyone say it, if not a bit crude.

"whats the dog doing in the swimming pool?"

"yo momma!"

mmmm anyway...

ive heard it a few times down here in oz... mainly on cs servers. i think its rather stupid.

I was refering to when people say...

"Fark you, you stupid sack of come"

To which the other person says...

"You're Momma!"

It just makes no sense! (And yes I heard someone actually say that... or read it I should say.)
