Too much time on the internet?

I spend a lot of time on the internet during the school year because here in the dorms we have a t1 and the speed is just too tasty to stay away for long.

However, this summer I will be at home where the connection is LESS than 56.6... yeah, I won't be on this much during the summer.

I know you will all miss me terribly. Just don't cry because then I will cry and it will be a mess....

Y'all need to get out and experience this wonderful thing called "the real world". There is life without the computer, people. Human beings have been on this planet for thousands of years without computers. Now we can't live without them. Geez. Go out, go have fun! Make friends! Talk to people using your mouth, not you keyboard. Try it, you may like it.

I tired that real world crap it got me picked on and sitting in coner alone brooding yeah it was great. :/ And sports are boring to me whoop de *uckign do I can swing a peice of metal and hit a ball. Why do that when i can acutlly think and ahve fun too. If I want to test my refelxs a FPS will do that just fine.

We also lived for thousand of years with no light sorcuse other then a fire in a cave. Why don't we all go live in caves with no power or lights casue thats what people used to do no thanks. Computers are here to saty and are a part of life more so when you get older.

Geez, a lot of you people need a life. I can't stand to be in front of a computer for any more than 2 hours at a time. Unfortunately with my current schedule and the fact that I live about 45 minutes from most of my friends, I spend more time on the comp than I would like, but that will soon change as we're moving. I love sports, they're anything but boring. Most people that would say sports are boring can't play them well.

Whenever I sit in front of a comp for over 2 hours I literally start to feel like a nerd and then feel guilty, and will walk around or watch TV or read a book. But god, sitting at a ****ing computer from when you get home till 2 a.m. in unbelievable. I mean I would smash my computer if I had to look at it for that long.

Half the reason I made this thread was to see how long your post would take to come up swmScott, glad I wasn't dissaopinted.

In fact I have a life, I go out, I have many friends, it's just that when other people are watching crap on TV or whatever, I am on my PC playing fun games or talking to people who share my interests.

Now please, what is wrong with that?

I don't want this to become an arguement but to say that sports are more valid than computing and any less nerdy is thinking that I can't agree with.

Whats the difference between people that sit at computers all the time and people that spend a majority of their time at their computer? A little exercise. Thats it. Except that bit of running or swimming... thats the difference between those two groups. Everything else you may think is just an illusion that society has set up in your mind.

If you value that exercise then sports are for you. If there are other things that you cherish, things you get from spending time online... then they may not be.

To tell people to get a life is ridiculous. What about guys who spend all of their time memorizing, talking about sports statistics and players and strategy? They are spending all of their time doing one thing... but its not nerdy because its sport related? What a completely screwed way of thinking. Just because its not your way of doing things doesn't make it a less valid way to spend your time.

I personally commend you for playing sports. The exercise, thought and ability that sports recquire are things to be commended in my opinion. I myself do not play sports on the whole as I don't find most of them very interesting (golf... and volleyball... thats about it). I think its wrong of you to say that most people who don't find sports interesting feel that way because they aren't good at them. Maybe they aren't good at them because they don't find one thing interesting about them so they don't bother to put the effort into those things. I mean, if you don't like math... you don't take as many courses as you can to get better, you just do what you have to. You love math... you're going to be better at it.

I don't spend that much time in front of my computer, myself. I go out with my girlfriend, cook, draw, garden, swim... so many things. Gaming is a big part of those things but not the end all be all. But I still think that if people enjoy it, its a valid use of time. I mean, whats valid? Should we write a compendium of valid uses of time for the modern individual? Experience is what life is all about. Everyone has to choose their own experiences in order to make their life what they want it to be.

Just my feelings on it. Not downing your choices... just trying to put out a different way of thinking about it.

Listen, I didn't mean to insult anybody, and you're right I shouldn't have said get a life. And I agree with you on the memorizing sports statistics and things, I mean I know a little about the teams, but not much.

It's just that I don't get the kind of social interaction out of playing games and talking to people online (although it is very fun and a good hobby) that I do from things such as sports.

Basically, I'm sorry I said get a life or insulted anyone in any way, I was out of line and had no reason to say it. And you're right that a lot of people don't like sports simply because it doesn't suit their taste.

smwScott, no biggie I just thought some of the stuff was a little harsh. You certainly don't have to agree with me. I was just presenting another point of view.

I don't spend too much time with my computer either... though some days I like to just vegetate in front of it all day long. Not too often but sometimes. On the whole, I NEED to get out there in the world pretty often.

What sports do you play? Any specific interests or do you hit a whole bunch?

The reason why I'm on here all the time is...I'm homeschooled and where i live there is NO friends. :D I would be a total anti-social without the internet and online games. I'm SO glad I found roguesquadron.net forums 3 years ago...I've not got around 20+ friends....that's more than I ever had in RL. :) But I can't wait to move, cuz my best friend in RL (friends since i was in 5th grade...i've been homeschooled since 7th and am almost out, just preparing for GED test.) lives in the area that we're moving to. :)
