An interesting tactic. What is called? Bribery? Fascinating. Unfortunatly, I cannot help you, because I happen to s0x0rs at skinning, modeling, game developing, programing, or anything that has anything to do with games other than cheating in single player and getting my ass handed to me in a bucket in multiplayer. I am however, looking forward to some screenshots, because the layout reeks of Extra Gaming Goodness™! Go get 'em!:joy:

Ash, you're going to attempt something that people I'm sure will love. Just a few thoughts:

Animating this figure is going to be tough. If you can..ahem...obtain a copy of SoftImage, you may be able to manipulate Raven's animations so that the left hand can be released from the lead saber at the press of a key, and can grip a second saber.

I might attach the second saber to Anakin's belt. I don't know what the story is with the second saber yet because the trailers for Episode II have not been clear. I have a feeling that it was a saber that Anakin picked up from a dead Jedi, though. But nevertheless, dangle it from his belt, and when you press a key (like the saber style key), he'll grab the saber from his belt and fight with two!

One final, more believable idea is making a character that can pick up the sabers of fallen Jedi (making lost enemy sabers like dropped weapons in SP). Anakin would start with only one saber, but could pick up the one of the enemy he kills and fight with two until he dies.

I wish I had the time to do this stuff!

Good ideas you got going there, but i think for now id like to stick with what ive got going (no offense to you) im having a hard enough time modeling it, then i can skin it myself but once thats done how to make it functional is the prob, im sure i can do it itll take time what might end up happeneing ill make it with 2 sabers but only one will be functional for now, but plz guys post the pics id like to post some screens tonight not to brag but as soon i get some pics i can get his face and sabers done in no time

i thought of an easy way to get rough-cut dual saber animations in the game. this would mostly be used to test the functionality of the second saber in game and stuff. i've already done part of it. contact me if you're interested.

*update*

can i also just make a general request? can we all agree from here on out to refer to having one lightsaber in each hand as "akimbo"? this is so much more clear than people using terms like dual sabers, twin sabers, double sabers, etc. some people use those terms to denote a darth maul-esque lightstaff (or sith saber, etc.). "akimbo" is the term used for having both hands controlling weapons independently, and is commonly used with guns (9mm akimbo, akimbo uzis, etc.). why can't we use the same word so that it's clear to everyone? why hasn't the one term that makes the most sense been used before?

This sounds really cool and its going to be the most downloaded file ever i reckon... the only thing im afraid of is that nobody is going to be using the standard saber if and once this is released.

I'll join a normal multiplayer server and EVERYONE will be running around with akimbo sabers!!

Still... keep up the good work, and if you need any beta or alpha testers give me a shout at this address...

here's an idea, anyways...note that I don't generally do modelling, level design is more my thing, but:

why not exchange one of the styles completely for the dual-wield style? I would think light style, for example, since it's already quick and dual-wield is, by necessity, an extremely fast style. Then instead of having to pick and choose between animations, just replace the fast style animations and moves with your own.

just a general tip, as well: do it like the pros do (if you're not already) - when you need to model something in a game, find a real life closest equivalent and find out how it works, then go on that, adding your own style in the finishing touches. Not only are there hundreds of star-wars related resources out there, but do a search on the net for stilletto and rapier or rapier and dagger to see how fighting with 2 swords really works, you might even get some extra ideas for cool moves and animations.

good luck, too! I want to be among the first to know when this project is working in the game.

instead of replacing a saber-style, would it be possible to add a fourth style? i mean, when you change to this style you fight with two sabers, the icon-color could be green. this would require to add another force-point to saber-fighting, which should be really expensive!!!

Obtaining a copy of SoftImage is not that difficult if you know where to look. ;)

Might I suggest many of the IRC channels?

Or a server in particular, irc.relic.net

Just look around, and if youre clever enough, you will obtain your "copy" of SoftImage.

Granted, its a $15,000+ software package, but in my opinion, whomever charges that much money for a program, is a lunitic and deserves for it to be distributed in a manner not befitting with the scrutiny of the law.

But thats just my "Opinion..."

Well...while I don't think that the developers of the program deserve to have their software downloaded for free...it's this little thing called stealing, and it isn't right...anyway, I DO think it's kind of stupid to charge fifteen thousand dollars or more for a program. Hell, you pay that much money, and you can buy yourself an Indigo computer!
