Riddle me this

in EI Qui-Gon does not fade away as obi and yoda do in the future

Why?

My simple minded guess is maybe the Qui guy is not as tuned into the force as they were that when they die they truely become one with the force???

No one really knows for sure, it may have to do with a couple of things. Lucas has said that it had to do with Obi-Wan's remark in ANH 'If you strike me down...'

It may be related to how Luke can see Obi-Wan after he dies. Lucas said that that is a trick that Yoda knows, that he taught to Obi-Wan...but no one really knows yet (unless it was brought up in the Ep II book...)

I think the whole dissapearing thing may have to with the individual who is about to die, and their acceptance of death. Obi-Wan expected to die, he knew he was going to sacrifice himself so the restof the gang could escape. Yoda also accepted the fact that he was going to die. As well as Darth Vader, who told Luke "Its too late for me now" or something to that effect. With the case of Qui-Gon, he died in a fight, not expecting to die. Thats the only thing I have noticed in each case of Jedi death.

Kylilin, I've heard that argument a lot, and used it at first, but then someone pointed out that Qui-Gon has plenty of time to prepare for death, since Obi-Wan kills Maul and then Qui-Gon tells him he has to train Anakin...

Seems like it would be pretty hard to concentrate while being stabbed, after being electrocuted (Vader dissapeared too), and when you die of old age (Yoda didn't pass on easily, he was struggling pretty hard...)

I think that this whole having to concentrate to be absorbed into the Force thing is a bit off the mark.

I think it is more of the way the Jedi was prepared to give his life for the Force that he is able to absorb into it. Qui-Gon was a bit of a rebel Jedi, didn't do everything by the book, so probably didn't have the high understanding of the force that Obi-Wan and Yoda had by the time they die. Even in their death, they are accepting that it is the way of the Force, that death isn't the end of life, but just of the physical life. Sounds more like a religious thing there, that the body dies, but the spirit lives on, and only those that seem to believe that are absorbed into the Force.
