Darth Abbadon Posted May 4, 2002 Posted May 4, 2002 Interesting news there. I can't wait to see how things progress with this.
Elijah Posted May 4, 2002 Posted May 4, 2002 I will now wait for this rather then buy an NVIDIA. SO HAHAHAHAH DI3 NVIDIA! THATS FOR STEALING 3DFX FROM US!
CupO'Coffee Posted May 4, 2002 Posted May 4, 2002 well i don't think nvidia shoul be worried. 3 years ago, i read about a new super chip that would wipe out all competitors because it's oohh-so-fast. and what happend? sh!t happened in the end. and just because nobody gave that new chip a chance, rather the board manufacturers kept using known chips ike nvidia ones. thus, i don't think anything major will happen in the graphicscard buisness. ps: just think of kyro and how he's making in the buisness, great chip, but no manufacturer exept herules gives him a chance
BCanr2d2 Posted May 5, 2002 Posted May 5, 2002 Agreed with the lack of competition in the market place with 3D chipsets. There needs to be major support from a major card manufacturer for an alternative to the nVidia family of chips. Same goes for Intel and processors, took a fair while for AMD to get their chip into a position where it is taking some substantial part of the chip market.
acdcfanbill Posted May 5, 2002 Posted May 5, 2002 did anyone see the nvidia buys amd thing on tomshardware.com? it was hilarious... amVidia...
CupO'Coffee Posted May 5, 2002 Posted May 5, 2002 please inSpiRe-, i beg you, if you don't have anything useful to add to the topic, please cut it out
Star ReaVeR Posted May 5, 2002 Posted May 5, 2002 don't be so hard on him, every message is one step closer of release from the name Bantha fodder
Amorpheus Posted May 5, 2002 Posted May 5, 2002 nVidia has no reason to be worried, we haven't seen anything yet. What happened to the last chip that promised to be a threat to them? Rampage? They bought that company. Originally posted by inSpiRe- mannnnnnn........i really hate being bantha fodder Deal with it.
PolarWind Posted May 5, 2002 Posted May 5, 2002 Sheesh, ya'll act like these forums are important. As for inVidia, if this technology is good enough, I'll buy it. I don't plan on upgrading for a while though, GeForce 3 should last me at least a little while.
Tank_Comie4545 Posted May 5, 2002 Posted May 5, 2002 i dont think they should loose sleep over it but they should consider it
Vesentac Posted May 6, 2002 Posted May 6, 2002 I believe that card is aimed more towards CG rendering NOT a "gaming" card.

Lord_FinnSon Posted May 6, 2002 Posted May 6, 2002 I have personally been waiting for Raden 8800 which would be overclocked and optimized version of 8500, but no words have come out from Ati about it. Because I'm in desperate need of upgrading(actually I have to buy totally new PC) and been checking out development of different cards almost a year now, I thought about purchasing GeForce4 4400(from Creative). It's just a little more expensive than Radeon 8500 and it's core/memory is exactly same as in 8500: 275/550. The thing is, Ati makes cards that has great potential, but they lack in driver department and even though they have put a lot more effort into them(take a look at this) lately, Nvidia is still the king in this part. I don't want to run into annoying bugs after paying so much AND I certainly don't want to wait for Ati to catch up performance of GeForce4 line of cards with every new driver update before their R300 appears to the shelfs in next autumn/winter. Maybe next card after this(and I'm not going to buy a new one every year) will be made by some other company than Nvidia.
