The_Raptor
I seriously think Lucas had this whole thing planned out from the start. Ok, circa 1977 AD, George Lucas writes a very long movie script that he breaks up into three parts because it would have been too hard and long to make all at once, so he choices the 1st part and decides to temporarily shelve the other 2 parts for a later time. He makes Episode 4, A New Hope, he makes an F'load of money, then within 6 years, he makes and releases the other 2 movies, Episodes 5 and 6 respectively. Now, why would name the first movie of a Saga "Episode 4" when no other movies of the saga ever came out before it? I think George KNEW this movie would be a huge success, would make billions (yes, billions) of dollars in box office, video's, toys, etc, and I think he had episode 1, 2, and 3 planned out from the start as prequels to make more money (and serve as gigantic wierd spoilers for people who haven't seen 4, 5, and 6 since they give away many plot "secrets" of the original trilogy). I'm not sure if he's admitted to this, but I think the "evidence" speaks for itself... Whats strange is that it seems like george wrote ep 1 in 1/10th the time he probably took with ep 4... hehe... What's funny is that people who went to see episode 1 acted like they were confused by, and couldn't follow the plot, but if you look at the original trilogy, did it make any more sense than episode 1? (haven't seen episode 2 yet, but I've heard it actually has violence not primarily involving the massacre of robots!)

BlacKnight
I kinda doubt he had 1-3 planned from the start because jango has such a big part that is obviously gorge catering to fans of boba. Which he wouldn't have been able to predict until he released 5 and 6.

DemonKing
Hate to tell this to you, but "Episode IV: A New Hope", was added to the beginning of the orginal movie sometime around the release of Empire Strikes Back - it was simply known as "Star Wars" up to that point. I seem to remember though that Lucas was rabbiting on about 9 films for a while in the late 70s/early 80s, but he seems to be content with 6 at this stage. Broode
Well, DUH. George had the entire trilogy of trilogies planned from the start, and I'm pretty sure he had some basic scriptwork down for all 9. He chose to start with Ep4 because it was the cheapest to make (which makes sence, how was he going to make a droid army in 1977?). The fact that the Episode IV: A New Hope was only added after ESB was because there was no way to tell how big the movie was going to be, and whether he could make a sequel or not. Nothing is garunteed a sequel, which is why you dont see movies being called "The Matrix I" etc. And come on, Jango only being there to please Boba fans? Your giving yourself too much credit. If youve seen AOTC, youll know he had the whole technology progession from the grand Republic to the dirty old tired Empire planned from the start, and how the Mandalorian armour works into all of that. Sure, the reaction to Boba in the OT may have increased Jango's on-screen time slightly, but he was there from the start.

LooNBB
George Lucas is actively destroying what he created. Yes. His original story was supposed to be a huge epic that he chopped apart into episodes. BUT: He has reworked and rescripted each of those episodes overtime The Story has changed Soooo Much since his original creation. I asure you George was NOT thinking about Jar Jar and Droid Armies back in 73 when he started writing all this down. In Fact Luke wasn't Luke and Annie wasn't Annie and Darth Vader wasn't Darth Vader. If anyone can show me proof that this whole prequel trilogy existed as anything other than CONCEPT then I'll begin to believe... But look at the early work: http://hem.passagen.se/wookiee/developm/ 1974 Rough Draft: Star Wars 1975 Rough Draft: The Adventures of the Starkiller (Episode One): “The Star Wars” 1975 Rough Draft: The Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Starkiller It was a VERY different story back in those days... Stargazer
Originally posted by SaberPro George Lucas is a genious. That's all I got to say about that. Indeed. First, he rips off half a dozen of the greatest sci-fi writers of the time . Than he avails himself of some of the best screewriters aviable only to get the credit of their works. Finally, manage to 'mistify' what was a simple sci-fi flick, turning Star Wars into a almost religious phenomena, all a while cashing 90% of it all. Genious indeed. Jedi_Monk
wasnt ep 4 originally named ep1 and only changed to ep 4 when the special editions were made I have the TXH remastered version from a few years before the SEs (remember? "Your last chance to own the Star Wars Trilogy"...) and it deffinately says "Episode IV: A New Hope". All of the VHS versions of ANH have had it. Jah Warrior
I know it was entitled episode IV and all but i definitely get the feeling that he's making it up as he's going along. I don't think we'd have heard another thing about ep 5 & 6 if 4 had failed and as for ep 1 i think he just wanted to make a few dollars, then realised how crap it was and is trying to appease loyal fans with ep 2. Incidentally why hasn't ja ja blinks died yet, what an annoying fool he is! he should have been decapitated not Jango Fett! Peace to all Jah
CupO'Coffee
i think he made the original trilogy with the intention of making episodes 4-6. then he had a rough imagination of how the prequel trilogy would loo like. now, after the ep4-6 trilogy was so successful, he's making the prequel trilogy inventing stuff here and there. also, from what i've heard there will be some kinda "super special edition" of the original trilogy with new scenes so that the orig trilogy looks more in line with the prequel tri. Breakin2'
What I want to know is where he could possibly take the films if there were Episodes 7-9. Who would the bad guy be? The only remaining Jedi is good and the Empire has been defeated. I guess Luke could have a child who winds up being pure evil, but that would be pretty lame. Vestril
He originally had a big movie planned out, then he realized he couldn't make it, so he had to break it up. He thought he would probably only be able 1 movie, so he turned IV into a movie that could stand on its own, which is why it's the only Star Wars movie you can watch that is really good without having seen any of the others. He completed that story arc with two other movies, but had had a backstory in his head, and also had idea's of what would happen afterwards. These weren't fully scripted ideas, and originally weren't broken down into trilogies. If you watch the EpI DVD specials, you know that he's been planning this trilogy for some time, developing digital film technology just to make these movies. The Special Editions were released just to help the effects tie in better to 1, 2, and 3--so if you watch the movies 1-6, it meshes a little better. I'm only speculating about that much, but it's a pretty reasonable guess.
