I'm sick of being mother's tech support

Gah...this has nothing to do with SW in any sense, but no one is on IM, so I'll mini-rant here

My mom...is so annoying:mad:

She refuses the learn the first damn thing beyond the pathetic basics of MSFT Windows (i.e; point, click, point, click, click) and then the real trouble comes when she gets in over her head

This has got to be the 3rd time she's gotten a virus and I've had to deal with it. I'm researching it, trying to get a better idea what to do about it, and she's standing there going on and on and on and on about things that any normal, non-motherly person would realize could not happen and would not be a likely out come of the situation. She stands there and hassels me while I try to fix her problem suggest things that are SO foolish, it brings me to the point of pain. THEN she has the nerve to just brush me off after I was all my time fixing her computer:mad:

Again, I repeat:

Well, slap her silly first, then get a firewall and AV program on that PC ASAP......

Then try to teach her the basics of emails and attachments, and what you should or shouldn't open.....

All else failing that, ground her from using the PC, she would do the same to you given the chance!!!!

Oh, there's already a firewall and AV on there...the firewall...I hate...IT'S NOT NICE:( I could never get anything to work besides IE and IM services, that would constantly disconnect...

And she normally deletes any email that doesn't have something to do with work...

...*looks in his brother's direction*

**ah-hem**

Anyway... Yes...she should learn something, cause I feel like crying everytime she calls me into her room and she begins a sentence with a word pretaining to computer usage

I know exactly what you mean, i have the same problem with my father "what have you done now?, it was working a minute a go", just after he tried to put the entire windows file in the recycle bin.

Somehow it's always my fault, even when i'm not a home.

The entire Windows folder in the recycle bin...LMAO

No, not exactly like that

It's ME who has to say to HER "What have you done now?"

I am like the in-house techie here...but man, they abuse me, maaann *stabs his arm with a needle* make it stop, man

I should go to bed:rolleyes:

I know a friend who deliberately removed most of the Windows Directory from a flat mate that didn't like.....

I was then asked to see what the problem was, and it ended up that his flat mate ended up with Win95, and not 3.11 that he had. I tried not to let on that I suspected he had deliberately trashed the PC on him......

The worst part is she REFUSES to learn this

I mean she TELLS me she doesn't want to know.

Then "stuff" happens to her computer and she's totally lost and doesn't get off my back, trying to give solutions that are totally wacko and makes mountains out of mole hills...

it took my mom two months to learn of to cut and paste.:( if there's anything she doesn't understand:

My Mom: Boy! come here and fix the computer!

Me: Coming mother.

Mom: Boy! what is this?

(I look at the screen. the website she's trying to look at is down, desplaying the error page.)

Me: the website's down. try later.

(my mom goes into fits of rage yelling about how I should fix it and all that)

Ok, ok. my mom isn't a witch (most of the time), but it's like they say: you can't teach an old dog new tricks. until then, all of us who know more than our perents will be doomed to repair the simplest things:( :ewok::fett::jawa

Try installing a good AV program, http://www.nod32.com should lead you to some of the best stuff out there (Virus free for well over a year (when I installed it), and I downloaded some nasty email attatchments (dammit if your uncle sent you an email saying urgent, you might take a look...)). Anyway, that might fix some of your problems...

As for the rest...start breaking more things than you fix, it conditions them to look to someone else :p

I guess you could refuse to help her and buy your own food, pay your own utilities, and pay for your own living space.

She's probably spending A LOT of money just to support you.

Try and figure out how many hours of work by her (or if she's still married) and your father it takes to support you on a daily basis.

Agreed she does do all that... but i learned when i was younger to do my chores so she didn't have to. To put the toilet seat down to spare the women of the household an extra 5 seconds. Not to say that it balances out. but They could attempt to learn a little.

Point is your damned if you do damned if you don't in my house.

Fix the computer!!!

You spend too much Time on the computer!!!

so I stay off it for a couple weeks

Fix the Computer!!!

and so On.

I guess I'm lucky to have parents who know how to use the computer and stuff. It's quite the opposite with me, they help me do stuff, but not stuff like copy and paste. Stuff like letting me play on the zone. (For some reason I couldn't go onto the zone even if my mom enabled it on the ip, but she fixed it.....)

Good luck guys, you'll need it!

I used to have that problem [my mom knows nothing about computers]. Eventually, I stopped doing things for her, and if she wanted to so something which required more than just GUI knowledge, I just said it can't be done. She doesn't really konw any better. Also, I saved up and invested in my own PC, so I can now avoid the "you messed up my computer" bit. It's not the most empathetic of solutions, but it works.

ok, this morning at 7:40 my mom wakes me up and tells me I have to get the lawn mower started. and it's not that she couldn't get it started, it's that she didn't even try :eyeraise: .

-this next part is not about helping with the computer-

"To put the toilet seat down to spare the women of the household an extra 5 seconds."

this little ritual has always bothered me. it takes more effort to lift the seat than it takes to put it down. gravity does all the work putting it down. how lazy are women?! (takes deep breath) I'm trying not to rant, but come on. maybe if they put a little effort into things they wouldn't need a man to open jars or start lawn mowers. (right now I would like to apologize to all the women out there that can do things themselves for my generalization of women)

hahaha

my mum is just like that, shes incapable of doing things that are infuriatingly easy! i use the time that i spend helping her to patronise her at the same time for being so clueless :D luckily my mum doesnt know enough about computers even to accidently get a virus!
