Darth Joka'ar
As for your opinion, why Yoda choose Dagobah as his hiding place? And how he get there?(I have something more important to ask but I keep it later, till this thread is done)
CapNColostomy
While not my opinion, here's what the official SW site had to say about it... http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/yoda/eu.html

atinymonkey
We think that the Dark Jedi that was killed on Dagobah could have been Count Dooku, by the time Yoda tracked him down it was too late to stop the Empire and the jedi were being wiped out. Yoda knew that he could not turn the tide, his energy depleted from the fight with Dooku. He also knew that he could have defeted Dooku in Ep2 but saved Obi Wan and Anakin instead, which was a turning point in the downfall of the jedi. Joda then stayed on Dagobah, shelded by the energy Dooku left. He probably vowed to stay out of affairs as his last major action has caused the Jedi to be defeted. But that's just an opinon. Probably won't turn out to be that complicated. Perhaps he just likes swamps.
CoolJ
i always figured he hid there just because it was a hell hole , the empire wouldn't think twice about going there to look for the greatest jedi master... well when i first saw the movie i thought he was just some swampy humanoid.... heh
obi
I always thought he gets shot down there while trying to escape, and the Empire left him for dead.

Darth Joka'ar
Did you guys read phrase from Yoda EU which stated about The Emperor can detect force sensitive people from a far distance. So this mean Emperor is a distance force sensor? Oh yeah, the dark aura was not Tyranus but a Dark Jedi named Blissk ( check it in Yoda EU @starwars.com)
Jedi_Monk
The EU is completely unreliable in all matters pertaining to the movies. I'd say there's a 100% chance that the Dark-aura-countering-the-light-aura theory is just that, a theory put forth by someone ignorant of Lucas' plans. I think that Dagobah is Yoda's homeworld and that it will be sterilized by the Empire in SW3. They think "why bother with a desolate swamp?" and leave it as it is, figuring every member of Yoda's species has been wiped out. In fact, the Yoda has survived and seeing that he will be of little use to the battle raging outside ("Remember, we're keepers of the peace, not soldiers" so what's one Jedi to do when peace is lost to chaos?), decides to remain on Dagobah and wait for the calling of the Force. Yoda survives to teach Luke, who goes on to give Anakin a reason to turn against his Dark Master. So what's the deal with the cave? Maybe there's some kind of noxious gas down there that makes people hallucinate
atinymonkey
I'll have to go back and watch Star wars. Im sure that's what Yoda describes the cave, mentioning the death and the abundance of the force. I prefer my theory anyhow. That's how it will allways be in my head. *trundles off singing to the voices in his head*
Jedi_Monk
I prefer my theory anyhow. That's how it will allways be in my head. I dunno... maybe I'm wrong... Yoda says "That place is strong with the Dark Side of the Force. A domain of evil it is..." Maybe an EU author stumbled upon something that's actually right (or maybe Zahn bugged Lucas til he tossed him a bone). Still, that's a really bad mindset to have when going into Episode III, atinymonkey.
atinymonkey
No, no, no, no, no. It's the only way I can be sure that I'm suprised by EP3. If I invent my own, pausable, story and keep it playing in my head then it's less likely that I get plot spoilers before the movie arrives. It's that or listen to everyone else and have everyone elses bits of the movie in my head. I'm working on the part between Obi One defeting Anakin and Darth appering. I like it in my head. All things are good in here.
Darth Joka'ar
Well I need to ask why The Emperor couldnt sense Yoda?
BlackDove
Because of the Dark Side.
Vestril
Or maybe because Dagobah is REALLY far away and it's hard to sense someone REALLY far away... I mean nothing in the movies says that a Jedi can feel another Jedi many Star systems away. If that was so then Vader would have been able to track the Rebel's really easily by always keeping a lock on Luke's presence...
Dath Maximus
he cant sense yoda because the planet is really really strong with the dark side of the force making it impossible to sense him

Darth Joka'ar
If then why The Emperor could'nt sense Obi-Wan(Ben)Kenobi in Tatooine? There is no Dark Forces shielding his Light Forces in Tatooine.
oninosensi
Tatooine is on the rim of the galaxy, too far away for anyine to think of looking. Besides, their attention was else where.
X R Kun
Yoda is a ballsless little green creature who hides in a planet while his friends (not to mention gay partner, mace windu) are getting slaughtered.period.
BdFmsiurine13
Their attention was elsewhere?!? At the begining of ANH, Darth VAder's ship was right over Tatooine. That's where the droids landed and the Empire searched. I think Yoda and Ben couldn't be sensed because of the abundant life on both planets. luke12946
there was an abundance of life on tatooine? i was under the impression that it was a more or less barren waste land...with a few settlements here and there
obi
I htink Obi and Yoda could not be sensed because of the light side being stronger and stuff. I think they used some sort of Light-side shiled to protect them from detection of the dark side.
