  1. 1. What do you think?

    • Yes, that wrinkly bastard Tyranus is too old, even though, for some reason, he wiped the floor with Obi-Wan and Anakin, but still...

    • No, look at Yoda, he seems just fine

Umm... you forgot to vote.

I think that the force can only sustain you for so long. Eventually old age catches up to even Yoda. He may live to be 900, but perhaps his race has a very long lifespan. Not to mention, Tyranus is old as well, and he wiped the floor with those two. If he's like Christophe Lee he should be around 80. He was Qui-Gon's master after all, and Qui-gon was supposedly fairly old also. The question is how old are we talking here? Jedi's live even longer than the average for their species because of the force, but they probably become crippled and etc eventually.

So if they're really, really old, it probably affects their ability to fight. If they're just old, not so much of a difference, but you'll notice. Besides, look at the examples we're using. Tyranus and Yoda, probably two of the greatest force users ever(besides Sidious). So it probably depends on your connection to the force as well. However, using force abilities like levitation, lightening and such, that never goes away I guess. I mean, the Emperor toasted Luke with force lighting, but he could barely walk. So, it all depends. In terms of actual fighting, yes, age matters. Yoda seemed somewhat tired after that battle. If I was jumping around like a five year old on a sugar trip, I'd probably need a cane to walk afterwords too:D As for physical fitness, have you ever seen a fat Jedi?:D I believe my point has been proven.

EDIT: I voted yes, because I feel that eventually, note the word eventually, age does play a part.I was quite tempted to vote for Sidious though. That guy is a frickin' genius.:emperor:

I think it depends on how strong somebody is in the force. In Ep. I Qui-Gon Jinn did not do to well against Darth Maul. That might show that Maul is better than Jinn however Maul gets killed by Jinns apprentice Kenobi who was much younger than Jinn. Qui-Gon Jinns master was Count Dooku who was probably considerably older than Jinn. Dooku wiped the floor with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Then Yoda who was much older than Dooku showed he was better than Dooku. So I guess it all depends.

I don't think there's anything canon that suggests that Jedi have much longer life expectancy than normal people. Originally, using the timeline put forth by Zahn (which was massively contradicted by the Prequels), Obi-Wan was in his 80s in ANH while Palpatine was over 100, I believe. But in the propper Prequel timeline, Obi-Wan is in his mid-50s (approx. 55) while Palpatine is 70-80.

But I agree that the older a Jedi gets, the harder it is for them to do the physical aspects of the Force. I'm sure if Yoda could have still jumped around like what we saw in AotC, he wouldn't have been riding in a backpack in ESB. But he still had the strength to life an X-Wing. All in all, the only limit to a Jedi's Force abilities is their the strength of their will, but when it comes to the physical aspects of the Force, their body just can't handle and maneuver the way it used to.

The Force gives stamina, extra agility and boosted strength, and the Jedi keep themselves fit to accommodate these abilities. But ultimately, they'll become enfeebled by age, like Yoda ultimately was, and their bodies won't be able to cope with the strain of these abilities.
