It's that time again, people

Recommended Posts

The time when big, bad Ike takes a good look at what is going on in the forums and shakes his head sadly.

Now, I enjoy a good lighthearted conversation as much as anyone. Other boards I hang out at are downright silly. But the difference is that these boards were in general designed for a different purpose than just idle chatter.

I'm asking all of us to take a good hard look at our posting habits (including our mods) and see what can be done to improve them. I have yet to see a single thread from today that did not get hijacked into useless banter by the 5th post, or resort into one of those e-battles where someone *slices so-&-so in two* and someone else *runs away* and someone else *kills Nute*. Basically, we've got like 10 threads that are all saying the same thing. Now, I'm fully aware that topic drift is an inevitability, but I want everyone to try to stay on topic.

I also want everyone to try to keep the threads away from banal topics such as word games, alphabet games, guessing games, simple polls, and anything else that is going to end up with just tons of posts and no point. Have any of you ever posted at the forums on theforce.net? The JC Community forum is filled with useless topics like that and it is pretty nauseating.

I want everyone to have fun, but I don't want there to be posting for the sake of posting. If you really and truly have something to offer, by all means post. If you don't, and all you have to post is something like *runs* or one of the little smileys holding up a sign, then think twice.

I'm sorry to be such a wet blanket, but I want these forums to be a place for something more than just banal chatter. I'm going to be keeping an eye on the threads in the near future and I'm going to close threads that have too much topic drift and/or resort to e-battles. I'm hoping that by doing so, you guys will get the idea of what to avoid and will adjust accordingly so I don't have to close threads.

We've got a vivrant community here, guys and gals. It is one of the oldest and it is pretty darn busy here. Let's show that we can post with as much quality and we do in quantity.

don't make me do this:

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! *runs in the other direction*

Um... If you see any bad posts by me it wasn't REALLY by me okay... it was... um... *thinks* It was Mr. Weasel who posted all those bad spam like posts. I was only the messenger! Please don't kill the messenger! Oh the humanity!...

Hey come on... your standing on the grounds of pure insanity, what else can we do? We can't go back to being sane cause I already burned our sanity to cinders... plus we kinda like having strange and wonderful voices talking to us every now and then. Come on Ike, lose your sanity, become one of us. Become an Aresanian and know the true power of insanity. :D

Okay then, tell us. What exactly is your idea of the "perfect post"? Cause all of us would like to know... well some of us... well maybe none of us, but tell us anywayz. Come on, the last 2 posts u've done are 1 liners... Does that mean a good post is a 1 liner post? I dunno it's all too confusing. I'm just askin this cause I want the facts dammit.

kills Nute? *irony*

You have a point with the '10 threads saying the same thing'...and that's prolly partially my fault...*blushes and hides the I'm with a Nog and Got Milk? signs* ^^;; I think everyone's been carried away with events of late. Things'll prolly calm down with all the hyperness leaking out of people's systems.

We can...*proudly points to RSRP forum* ^_^

This is a fun forum. Yes lots of people get off topic but people still enjoy it. And I personally don't think anyone is going to change their posting habits. Habits are hard to break, 'specially if you don't want to break them.

Well...this forum is named "Downtime: The Pilot's Lounge" and it's being used for downtime ne? The Rogue Squadron topic sections are perfectly on-topic (if a little empty). So is the RSRP section (which is quite 'not empty'). None of the RPGs there have been hijacked into conversation topics, and if they did I would delete the posts. (and I do have the time on my hands to do that...this is directed at any Swampers who might be dreaming of invading :p)

And well, this forum is as active as it is because of the 'insanity' abounding everywhere. Very few people play Rogue Squadron anymore...that isn't why they came here. I mean, look at XWA.Net, a similar old game forum. Practically dead. JK.Net? Even 'dead-er'. Communitys upped and left. This happened to RS.Net, too, over a year ago. Then the 'new people' came along. Rebound! Hmmz...

And you have to admit these forums are rather nice, too. With just one exception people haven't been flaming or seriously fighting amongst themselves.

On the other hand (@everyone else) ten identical highjacked topics is rather stoopid...saying the same thing over and over again with no point. But I think we can change that. ...Right?

Hm...seeing's how post count makes all the difference in the world in forums, you probably won't listen to me...but what is the purpose of changing how you post? We're all having fun. Is that a bad thing? I personally don't think so; the only thing that it's really doing is giving us an extra post. Now I know that my opinion doesn't matter...and that I'm gonna get some snyde remark from someone for this but...like I said before....that's my two cents. If you don't care, neither do I. :D (Sorry)

like i said, i'm not against having fun, let's just try to have a higher quality of fun :)

allow me to clarify for a moment... this forum is this close to being:

"OMG!!!!!11! PALPATINE = SIDIOUS! **PROOF INSIDE!!**"

and then come the threads where people start asking how to get girls/guys to like you, and why can't they get a date, and how they like this girl but are afraid to ask them out, and then it all just becomes completely lame.

What Ike is saying...the forum is this close to being Yoda's Swamp!

Ironic that the Swampers invaded here just this/last week.

And Cal: Post count does NOT make all the difference! The only possible difference it can make is that when you get to 1000, you get to change your rank. Woot.

I've seen that you think respect is based on posts, but that just isn't so.

[/end rant]

On a side note:

 Palpatine = Sidious!? You're not serious?!!

:lol::rofl:

Heh, I don't think this forum is going to come to that. Admittadly there's some strange threads, but it's all in good fun and there's some seriousness to them. Anyway, it's never going to get too out of hand, I don't think. It's not out of hand yet is it?

Hey come on Ike, we're all jokers in here, it's best to get in with the spirit of things rather than fighting it. Plus the world may be big and this is a Rogue Squadron forum but u can get stuck when thinking of something to post about RS... however there are a few ppl who still talk about Aresen, there are people who like to joke around, and there are your occasional losers who just like to spam... but we haven't had one of them for a while... so come on, give us some slack (not that u've given us plenty already :D ) we just like to crack jokes and generally make each other laugh...

*gets up on a podium* I have a dream... eh sorry :D

Anyway...Dude, Ike cuts us a hell of alot of slack, he's only saying to cut down on the pointless, which there has been alot of. I'm mean look out at the topics right now, none of them have been closed, not even the ones that are simply about increasing post count, which is seriously overrated. *looks at own post count and has been here awhile now* So calm down and stop jumping down his throat.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with trying to improve the quality of the insanity in our posts. Really people. Besides, being "the man" is Ike's job. How about cutting him some slack?

And how about this one not dissolving into pointless posts? *looks above her own* That's so very disrespectful.

Ok, I'm done being erm...not me.

You know Cal she's right. And it'd be best not to turn this thread into a "no-you-jumped-down-his/her-throat" fest. That's clearly not the point of it...

"I'm just saying that we should strive for a mentality a bit more than junior high level."

I'm sure we can all agree with that. :)
