MaTT[-FcG-]
I was watching A new hope today when I noticed that during the scene where luke is aboard the Millenium Falcon training with his saber against the training drone thing that his saber is totally white! I took a screengrab here so you can all see...
Kryllith
That's just the bleeding out of color in the film. His saber is actually blue, but it appeared really washed out in New Hope, so it appears white at times. Kryllith
MaTT[-FcG-]
The thing is That pic was taken from the Special edition of star wars with the added Mos eisley scenes. The film in that version was totally restored and I cannot remember ONE single scene where lukes saber is anything but white!
ET Warrior
it isn't intentional. it's just how the sabers looked back then because the technology for making their lightsabers wasn't as good as it is now. Most likely the sabers will be completely redone when lucas goes back and redoes the OT again.
MotionMan
In my version of ANH it looks blue. Anyhow it was meant to be blue all along. Technological limitations may make it look washed out but its blue.

I hope they redo the emperor hologram scen from esb and the Jabba/Solo scene from ANH. Jabba looks too weird.

Supposedly the Battle of Yavin will be retouched as will the lightsaber battles, as well as adding small scenes and music to tie the entire saga together(The OT to the Prequels). We'll you could certainly say old Mr. Lucas is obsessive, and when it comes to Star Wars: We like him that way!
Exar Kun II
I just looked at A New Hope and the saber looks blue to me. Maybe Matt got a bad copy.

Well you would probably notice it more on an older copy, i.e not in the special edition. The film would have gotten a bit older and the blue color of the lightsaber would have a tendency to bleed a bit.

I dont think lucas even touched any of the saber effect whilst re-doing the special edition movies! To make sure I was not seeing things i also watched the box set trilogy special edition version of the film i have on DVD.... throughout the whole Falcon sequence his saber is white! Let me guess, you got your "box set trilogy special edition of the film on dvd" from ebay, right? Either that or you're from the future.
Norin Radd
If he got them off Ebay they are probably VCD, which means that they are just magnetic transfers onto disks in most cases and not really digital, much like burning an MPEG to a CD-R. Here is a photo of someone offering the OT on DVD on Ebay. I know these cannot be legally distributed.

Keiran Halcyon
Well this is interesting. First of all, Luke saber has to be blue since in ESB it is blue BUT in ANH it is very light colored, in fact Obi-Wan's is 'bluer' see the cantina scene. Well i think the different thing is that it doesn't have glow. Obi-Wan's doent have glow in the Vader duel, so i think it looks lighter there too. Anyways the worst part is that when igniting the saber, the film stops and that looks creepy , (hope lucas fixes it ) I even tought Luke's was light blue and obi-wan's dark blue, but as in EBS luke's is the same shade of color.... Master Bodle
The only colours that are canon are RED, GREEN, RED and now PURPLE. They are the only colours seen in any of the movies and so they are the only CANON colours.
JediNyt
I got the special edition and lukes saber in ep4 is white with just the slightest hint of light blue. Its just the technology they had. For those of you who say its totally blue then youve got your TV set all funky perhaps.

Ratmjedi
The saber does look white in some scenes. It is a ice Blue but in some scenes when he holds the saber in a certain position it does look completly white.
Taos
I'm sure most of you ppl have seen the making of TPM???? Well, if you remember, the stunt guy and Ewan were talking about the color of Luke's saber in the OT and said the actual color was lilac....just for info:) It does look pretty white though doesn't it? I've never really noticed it before....
Ratmjedi
I just wachted that like a week ago. I don't recall that part but I'll watch it again. You know the weird part? Ewan trained with a model of Qui-Gon's saber hilt. When the prop guy came Ewan got to chose which saber he was going to use. Imagine he got a lightsaber like the ones everybody had? Or that he would of gotten the Qui-Gon Jinn one! I seems weird thinking about it now but I wonder if he would of chosen a diffrent hilt? What are you're guys thoughts? Redwing
@Woad: GOOD. The Special Editions were supposed to be perfect, and then they weren't. I want him to go all out this time... @M Bodle: Who frikkin cares? Not even Lucas can make up his mind on which saber colors are canon!
