Technically, Canada is under the British monarchy, that's why I made the joke (self-deprecating humour is a trait we inherited from the ancestors of Monty Python. ). We have a Governor General, who represents the Queen's authority (though he's really only a figurehead), and a Prime Minister, who actually runs the country (theoretically, anyway).
