As Homicidaleg says, wizards and Sauron are Maiar spirits.

Sauron is a general of the evil Vala Melkor (or Morgoth), and wizards are Maias sent to middle-earth to do good things, Balrogs are corrupted Maia spirits in the shape of demons.

Tom Bombadil was also a Maia.

First thing, it was not Sauron who first made the orcs, it was the Dark Enemy Melkor.

Trolls were not made by ents, they were bred by Melkor himself, for he wished creatures with the strenght and size of ents.

Goblins are the same as Orcs, Melkor did never capture men to be tortured and mutilated, neither with dwarfes, for these two races, especially men, were too short-lived to be changed into somehing horrible.

Uruk-Hai was first made by Sauron, not Saruman, when Sauron breeded Orcs with Goblin-men.

A Balrog and a Wizard are not the same race.

Wrong, both are of the race of Maiar, the only difference is that Balrogs are evil, and takes the shape of a demon, while Wizards are still true to the Valar, and appear in an old mans shape.

There are five wizards in Middle-earth, but we hear only of three in LOTR. The wizard Radagast the Brown had a minor part in FOTR, but it was skipped in the movie.

actually there are 12 valars, who are basically gods, one of which is morgoth(the evil god or melkor as jedi monk said). sauron, the wizards, and the balrogs are the maia, who are servents to the valars, like angels. balrogs were maias who were mutilated by morgoth, sauron was morgoth's second in command, while the wizards served teh west with the other 11 valars

uruk hai was sarumans mutilated orcs and orcs were elves captured by morgoth and tortured for eternity in the 1st age

i dont think trolls were ents, they were created by morgoth all together like dragons...

everyone forgot about the eagles though, they were pretty cool even if they didnt get much time in the books

Yes, but a much older one.

After stealing the ring and killing his brother, Smeagol (Gollum) was banned from his village. The ring twisted him into the dark creature he is now. However, Gollum is a very important part of the story later on in Return of the Kings

how long has it been since you read the book???

how come people dont like dwarves

cause their most prominent and famous city: Khazad-dûm, which lies under the misty mountains is gone.

The city was based on mining minerals from the earth such as mithril, which was sold to the elves and other people for the use of armor in place of chain mail.

"In the year III 1980, they dug too deep, and unleashed a nameless terror from the depths beneath the city. The creature wreaked dreadful destruction, and in slaying the then King, Durin VI, became known as Durin's Bane. In the following year, Durin's son, Náin I, was also lost, and the Dwarves fled their ancient home. After millennia as one of the richest cities in Middle-earth, Khazad-dûm stood dark and empty, but for the brooding menace the Dwarves had released. In that time it was given a new name, Moria, the Black Pit. "

(for you confusionist/chinese people..here is your shortened version :rollseyess )

edit: and then later sauron used it as a hiding place for his armies.

their most prominent city is gone, they all hide in their mountain homes. And it is a good estimate to say a good percent of the population of them died then, and they dont have a big appearance in the movie excepl Gimli.

+they dont like the elves

if you read the hobbit you would understand why. the wood elves locked up the thirteen dwarves with out any reason at all they just draged them out of mirkwood when they were attacked by spiders and were almost starved to death and just threw them in cells. so dont go saying they suck because they dont like elves. btw gimli and legolas become the best of friends at the end of the trilogy

i blame it on the movie considering how you are exposed to almost nothing about dwarves. But all you see is the elves...elf this, elf that. You see Rivendell and Lothlórien. What do you see of the dwarves...an abandoned city. heh.

Also the poll is not broad enough...i mean come on! humans, elves and dwarves, thats ALL you could come up with??
