Pad
to make a gif like mine: take an mpeg and convert it to gif (probably convert it avi and then to gif =>i use mpeg2avi and microsoft gif animator) open it with gif movie gear to adjust evrthing and use paint shop pro to place name on it
BCanr2d2
Even a program like Flash can do the same, it can then be converted to a gif from a swf or other kind of animated web object. Allows for a lot more freedom of what can be animated, what text that can move, etc... I have been tinkering with my avatar to add a sparkle on the lens. Coz even with one's like Padanime's you could make the name scroll in from the left, or out of the sabre........

BCanr2d2
Nah, why have a sparkle on R2's lense, when I can easily make him move across the avatar!!!
Pad
yes, u could make an av with flash. if u make it, go look at the size of the file and wonder why its so big. i tried that and found out the size was too big for an av. so i think my way is still the best way to make an av. BCanr2d2
I guess it is horses for courses, what people feel comfortable with. My personal preference is for Flash, and publish it as a GIF, but then again I am not doing heavy animation, and have a pic twice as big as i need it. I think it depends on what you animate yourself in flash, and what is already moving before it is in Flash as to what filesize you end up with. I just like the easier way to create animation in Flash, for pieces external to a static pic.
