Syfo-Dyas
With the release of the much anticipated ProMod 3, it is time to start finalizing our list of Maps, Models, and skins which will be included in the ProMod MediaPak 1. A while ago, I offered to put a list together for ArtifeX of the Maps/models/skins, I felt would be good material for the MediaPak. Things that would make the gameplay more interesting, challenging, and fun. As well as to showcase the work of the talented people who have created this stuff. Here are the criteria I used: 1) Maps MUST include BOT support (and the support must be decent at least) 2) Maps must play with a reasonable framerate on my computer. *My computer specs are Athlon800, 384MB RAM, 32MBGraphics card. Basically a two year old computer. This will help ensure that MOST people will be able to make use of the maps. ** As a side note, I will mention that a lot of you map makers need to learn to do MORE with LESS. Far too many great maps suffer from choppy framerates. It was hard rejecting some great work because of poor framerates and/or no BOT support. 3) Models/skins MUST include support for teams, and all of the sounds must work and be correct. Pretty simple stuff, really. Now before I continue, I'd just like to say that even though I have had to use MY judgement on this stuff, I am smart enough to know NOT to speak for the community (I'm no fool! ). But I have tried to cover the suggestions people made over in the ProMod thread. The following is a list of what I have -so far- that has gained my stamp of approval. PLEASE feel free to respond with your additions/ revisions/ subtractions/ and of course, your pissing & moaning... DUEL MAPS KaminoX KyrossDepths KyrossTemple Messaja Phobia Infiltrate Coruscant Promenade Matrix Dojo Sith Chamber EDIT Pad Pak CTF MAPS We need more in this area -but it's slim pick'ns right now... Imperial Installation ctf_wls4 WaterPump Station EDIT L Station EDIT Yavin Twilight EDIT Battle of the Water Forts FFA MAPS We could use a few more of these as well. Blades of Death2 Pad Station Skyhigh Models/skins ANH Luke (has team support, isn't working for some reason) Battle Droid (New sounds added/modified) Boba Fett C3P0/4LOM Cheshire Arco Vader (New sounds added/modified) Clone Troopers Palpatine/Sidious pak Darth Maul collection (New sounds added/modified) EDITmodel deleted Energy Trooper Aayla/LenyaVanua/Sirrya Pak Count Dooko/Tyrannis Lady Brena/Ferna Khase Pak EDITmodel deleted Guard 2.1 Jango Fett Ki Adi Mundi (Modified taunt -sounds better now! "Your Mother!":p ) Lord Lootaas Lord Rive JarJar/Gungan EDITmodel deleted Padme Geonosis RoyalGuard/Kir Kanos/CarnorJax Pak Tyrion Xeyph Jawa (needs BOT support, but I will add it just to HAVE these lil guys!)(also has a size issue, see Yoda) Yoda Kinja (debatable since he I don't think he can be shrunk down to 'Muppet' size...) Zap Pak (IF I can get some kind of team support out of it. At least Tron and Flynn...) EDIT mc Han Solo EDIT Tuskin Raider EDIT Kit Fisto EDIT Jerec EDIT ObiVM (EP1,Obi-Wan) WE COULD STILL USE: Some good Obi-Wans, Qui-gon Jin, Anakin Han Solo(nevermind -we have our Solo) Leia and anything else I missed that is cool (i.e. ALIEN, Beldar Conehead, Dalek, Homer Simpson -if only they existed!!!) Okay. That's what I've got. I now surrender the floor to Da rest of yooz guyz!
Lathain Valtiel
Hmmm.. did you look at Major Clod's models? Namely Han Solo and Tusken Raider?
zerowingzero
I suggest triming the fat on that model list, every model you add turns off another person with a huge download, top quality only should be allowed. Naked tav? Who recomended that??
Lathain Valtiel
Here's a better question, what about the Fun in the Sun Bikini Pack? I sense hormonial urges.
Syfo-Dyas
Oops, I forgot about the Tuskin Raider. He should have been in there too. I KNEW I was gonna catch crap for NakedTav and the Bikini pak! I thought they were funny and well done, but NOTHING is set in stone. If nobody wants em, nobody gets em... ( Geeesh! Good thing I didn't mention the Chipandales X-posed skin-pak... ) Regarding file size: Most of the time Model/Skins are 3-7 MB is because of the sound files included, AND the fact that they are only compressed to maybe 1-3%. It is easy enough to go in and reencode them at a higher percentage value. I usually encode at 11%, which is probably STILL a little conservative. They sometimes include stereo samples as well, which doubles the file size and serves NO PURPOSE in the game. I don't think it's unrealistic to keep 'em at and under 2meg. But I understand your conserns. Lets keep the dialog going on this. We don't want to over do it. But let's not under do it either. The idea behind it was to expand the game, and do it in a way where everyone playing ProMod 3 would have easy access to the same things everyone else was using. wassup
here are some nice FFA maps: Carbon Freeze v2 Duel of the Fates v2 Jedi Council Temple City of Xia (HUGE) Moria Dwarrowdelf v2(fairly large and very dark) Jedi Academy (good for FFA and dueling) and some cool CTF ones: Kashyyyk Tree Canopy CTF CTF L-Station Battle of the Water Forts (v1.5) Civil War also there is alot of cool stuff at www.jk2files.com and the files section of jediknightii.net. Lathain Valtiel
Again Syfo, check Clod's new Han Solo/Imndiana Jones models with Blaster. They rock.
thehomicidalegg
you should definitely trim down the models list... 1st there would be people unwilling to download it due to the large size, ALSO, there's a limit on the models displayable from the menu. This reduces the userfriendliness as not every one knows or uses the console for setup... unless a model scrollthrough script is included.
Mex
Dont put nude tavion skin in, or any kind of bikini, half-naked-ness or rude things please...
pakmannen
Again i would recommend the map Sand Arena 2, because it's very fun with Jetpacks. Here's a review: http://www.theforce.net/games/jo/game_01_fan_reveiw.shtml And yes, you probably should trim down the model list..
Wolf Devil
And Sifo, you're a tad vague on some of your models/skins since there are many versions of certain ones, and for the record there are some sites that aren't well known and therfor I wish to speak out for them (unofficially). And for the record I don't know how well any of these will perform on your computer, Sifo, so I'm just listing all that I got. I have a Pentium II 400 mhz, 256 mb ram. Most of these work fine on my computer with normal graphics level. DeTRiTiC-iQ
hehe, Kashyyyk Tree Canopy ain't gonna be in the pack, using a jetpack in it will ruin it. Besides no bot support
happydan
theres also a GREAT sound pack called "NinjaGaiden_Sound_Pack" which has loads of sounds from the movies. that should be in there too

ArtifeX
I want to keep the size of the first pack as small as possible. 2-3 maps for each major gametype, and around 10 new player models for each class (jedi/gunner). Skins for existing models we'll have to judge by the size. My target filesize is between 20-30 megs. Let's see if we can pack that full of the absolute highest quality community content. Moradivh
For the love of mercy, don't forget the Kit Fisto skin. Everything else in the pack can go to hell as far as I'm concerned, but don't rob me of my mutant porpuse taunts! If the file's too big then cut some of the extra models that come with the pk3 and make sure all the sounds are mono! But DON'T LEAVE IT OUT! I BEG! Syfo-Dyas
OKAY. First, thanks to the good folks who provided links! You get an extra star on your report card, and 1 extra piece of candy at the end of the day... Let me now address nakedness issue: Flanders makes a pretty darn-diddly-doodly good point here. I'd hate to have anyone feel offended by having women in various states of undress running around and wielding lightsabers (even though I often have had dreams that were similar ). And although the Bikini pak has about the same amount of coverage as Leia did in ROTJ, and even though the rest of the game involves killing and dismemberment for fun and sport, I think (if there are no objections) I will cull the NakedTav and Bikini Pak from the list. Are we good with this now??? Fine... Onward. Regarding the numbers of models/skins/maps: I would rather have a list containing MORE than we will use, than one containing LESS than we would like. The idea here is to put together a list of items that have been approved. Where we go from there is completely up to ArtifeX. This is his baby -I'm just trying to help. Now let me address some of the individual comments/suggestions: From Wassup [qb] here are some nice FFA maps: [/qb] Carbon Freeze v2 Cool map, poor framerate. Duel of the Fates v2 Same as above Jedi Council Temple No BOT support City of Xia (HUGE) I haven't seen it, I'll check it out. Moria Dwarrowdelf v2(fairly large and very dark) Same Jedi Academy (good for FFA and dueling) Same and some cool CTF ones: Kashyyyk Tree Canopy CTF No BOT support -Mr. Detritic!!! CTF L-Station Haven't seen it yet. Battle of the Water Forts (v1.5) Like the map, but poor framerate... Civil War I've been meaning to check this one out. From pakmannen [qb] : Sand Arena 2 [/qb] I'll check it out. Thanx. Wolf Devil, THANK YOU for your completeness. A number of your suggestions are either addressed above, or already on my list. I'll check out the rest. Thanks man... As for Sound FX... I'll let ArtifeX field that one. If he wants them, then they'll be in. Just remember that sounds are 'expensive' from storage perspective. Sounds will get us closer to that 20-30 MB limit faster than most other things.
ArtifeX
If I were to add sound effects, they would have to really, really impress me. The sheer weight that sound files would add to the pack would be a big reason to not allow them. Let me reiterate my requirements: 1. Maps must have bot support. Models must have proper bot files and sounds. 2. Maps must be able to maintain playable framerates for a nominal machine. I'm thinking a 800-1200Mhz processor and a GeForce 2GTS here. 3. Maps must not contain major gameplay imbalance flaws. This includes bad bottlenecks with no alternative routes, over emphasis on bottomless pits (consider ffa_ns_streets a good design, duel_bespin as a poor design), weapon placements that favor one team over another. 4. Textures must not be blatant aiming aids. Coloring entire textures bright orange, or drawing huge red X's on the chest. 5. Models and textures must be appropriate to competition-level play and the Star Wars fiction. Stuff like Homer Simpson models will not get in no matter how well done it is. Toonces' Kit Fisto model is already a guaranteed part of the pack, as is his Mace Windu (when completed).
The Truthful Liar
Perhaps we at NRG can collaborate our upcomming maps with ProMod. Your thoughts?
ArtifeX
Originally posted by AB_Legion Perhaps we at NRG can collaborate our upcomming maps with ProMod. Your thoughts? Absolutely. Love to have some of the NRG guys working on some maps with me. I'm not too particular on what theme the maps use, other than that it follows the SW fiction, so you guys would be free to come up with whatever you like. If any of you have experience coming up with saga maps, that'd be a huge help, as I'm going to try to support the Saga gametype in the next version. Let me know what you'd like to do.
