Luc Solar
Now I'm officially pissed off. I just downloaded a SP level with Tavion as the bad guy/girl and...well...they did it again! (The level was very impressive otherwise, definitely worth the dowload ) What I'm talking about is this: As we all know ---> in just about every game you have to beat the Boss in the end. WHY OH WHY can't they make the last fight a decent one?!?! WHY does it always have to be a hopeless struggle untill you find some STUPID TRICK that let's you win?! Take Alien vs. Predator for example: remember the huge Queen-mother-of-all-aliens you had to face at one point? Did you spend countless hours trying to lure it close to the gas tanks to blow it up just to realize that no matter how many explosions it suffered and how many rounds of ammo you pumped into it, you couldn't kill it? You simply had to open up a hatch and let The Queen be sucked into space. Talk about an anticlimax! Remember Jedi Knight 1? The Final fight in the Valley? The god-mode-beams and statues? Bah! Ever tried to beat the Ladder? Got supergripped to death by Vader countless times? Yes? Well me too. No matter how much damage you dealt out, Vader kept going...unless you happen to push/pull him out the window into space that is! As I said: I just fought Tavion. I bet it took an hour of quickloading and dying before I gave up. Either she was invulnerable or had to have 10.000+ hit points. As always, there was a trick to this fight. Once again I was disappointed. WHY can't they make the last fight FUN and COOL and FAIR and...stuff? Just a fair fight where skill matters! You hit 'em good and they die period Is that too hard? I doubt it is. Thank god at least Desann was beatable without using the dumbass beam. Make the bosses tough. Give them speed and skill and a ****load of hp but don't make them gods that cannot be beaten unless you use some lame, silly trick! I get no satisfaction of pressing a button and see the opponent get sucked into space. What I do get satisfaction from is beating the crap outta him/her/it using hard-earned SKILL. The climax of a game should not be a puzzle disquised as a fight.

In my opinion, it can be, but it better be a damn good puzzle for a climax (and a snazzy end movie too, doesn't hurt either). What I think is equally stupid is when the developers make the end fights too easy - the end fights in Aliens vs Predator 2 weren't very exciting or challenging, but, as you pointed out - there were no lame, secret tricks attached to them. Just run 'n gun.
Luc Solar
Oh and another thing! --> what has happened to all the cool videos?! Remember JK1's awesome cutscenes? They made a huge difference imho! Nowadays all you get is some crap made with the game engine Gimme more videos!

Cut me some slack, I want the real thing. *remembers Command & Conquer* Now that game had it going - gorgeous cutscenes whether real or computer graphics... ....and the music!!! Oh sweet Lord, the music!!!
ET Warrior
I have nothing against using in-game cutscenes, because the engine graphics are powerful enough to make those cut-scenes look darn nice, IMO Perhaps you should play final fantasy 10 on PS2, if you enjoy RPG's and have a ps2. It uses CGI animation for the cutscenes and they look extremely nice. Plus there are no tricks to boss battles, only some skill and determination. Another game would be perhaps James Bond: Nightfire if you enjoy shooters...i rented it and it is a very nice game where so far the boss fights have revolved around your ability to shoot straight and dodge well. And it has pretty nice cutscenes so far......
Hyperglide
Sounds to me Luc Solar you need some Duke Nukem or Final Fantasy game's. Good bosses there.
Emon
Filmed cutscenes have these problems: 1. Expensive 2. Acting is bad (almost always) 3. Directing is bad (almost always) 4. Inconsistant with the game, and good developers know that consistancy is key 5. Expensive 2. Did I say acting is bad?

Darth Ferretus
Yeh, it's so annoying, the boss at the end of FF9 is to easy. By the time youre there, it's simple to do 50,000 damage. Such a waste/ I like alternate endings though!!
Luc Solar
Don't know how expensive making movies is, but they make a huge difference to me. It's not like you'd always have to hire actors for cutscenes. Take games like Baldur's Gate: how many movies are there in the entire series - 5?! That just really sucked. I doubt it is so darn expensive to make some computer generated few-second flicks! Cutscenes made with the game engine are crap. Remember the feeling you got from the vid in JK1 where you were interrogated by some Rodian (or droid or whatever) in the pub? That was kick-ass stuff! I don't care whether or not the actors got Oscar-nominations. The point is that it made the game seem REAL. (Keyword here: REAL) Compare that to the game-engine-made intro in Jedi Outcast (Kyle and Jan listening to Mon Mothma). Bleah.

You gotta be kidding me - the only reason I managed to beat him after he nailed 2 of my team and doomed my last on was because I threw my Dark Matter at him! That was a NAIL biter... Now FF7 bosses are wossys (excpet the VERY final fight sequenc w/ rocks) But then again, we got the Weapons (I am a LEGEND - defeated Ruby w/out him hitting me once and nailed Emerald who only got the chance to do 1 Revenge Stamp (lvls were approx. 50s))
