Have NONE of you seen "The Santa Clause" starring Tim Allen?

Hahahaha. One of my favorite movie, in a cheerful christmas sort of way.

Where exactly do santa buys his toys? How come the elfs know how to make a transformer toy? Dont they know about copyright infringement?

He, he.

Santa, as we know him today, was invented by Coca-Cola, but based on a popular myth (actually several). What makes this debate interesting is that any reasoning for or against Santa is equally viable when applied to God/Allah/any other mythological figure.

You need to lay of the Miracle on 34th Street, my boy. :p

ahh the ability to slip into several dialects.

Ah, you must have been speaking Ignoramish, a very common dialect among rednecks and thugs(/z). ;)

Seriously though, there's no man that squeezes down chimneys delievering presents to the little boys and girls of the world... he would bring presents to ALL of them, not just those whose family puts up a tree and celebrates Christmas. Also, not all houses have chimneys. ;)

The thought is nice, the man lived (probably) at one time or another, but it's the parents that keep the tradition alive. :D

the stuff about the raindeer and the elves and all that is fake but santa was real and he did give out gifts

This is true. The man known as Saint Nicholus (sp? ) is an actual saint cannonized by the Roman Catholic church. The day of the feast of our good St. Nick is celebrated on December 6, and is still a holiday in Germany called Nicolaus Tag (Nicholus day), where the 'good' little boys and girls leave their shoes by their door at night and when they wake up the next morning, they either find fruits and sweets (if they were good) or coal and eine Rute (a switch. sorry, I just love saying the german word for it, it sounds soooo much nastier :D) if they were bad!

The man known as St. Nick was a bishop during the early part of the established Church's existance (after Constantine had made Christianity the official religion of the roman empire) (not sure of this either, but it makes since because he was a recognized bishop, so the Christians had to have stopped being persecuted before he became a bishop). He was said to have given aid to poor children, and on the eve of Christ's Mass (what we know as Christmas Eve) he would anonymously deliver small presents to the poor children to bring some joy into their generally harsh lives. He did this only in a small part of his diocese, as he obviously couldn't get to all the poor children in his diocese.

The name santa claus comes from the swedish (or dutch, not sure of the language. I'm saying this all out of memory, and I'd have to look up all this stuff to make sure, and I'm just too lazy to do that right now) word Sinter Claus, which is Saint Claus (short of Nicholaus, or Nicholus (sp? ), and eventually over time became Santa Claus.

If I'm wrong on any part of my historical accuracy, feel free to correct me, but the basic facts remain the same. Saint Nick did live, and he did give presents to children (he was known to have loved kids, and b/c of that he did what he could for them). He is also the patron saint of sailors.
