Traditional Seiges lasted for months, which allowed the Engineers to build the trebuchet. The Seige at Helm Deep lasted only hours, hence they couldn't have built the very heavy stuff. However there were portable ones, that can be easily transported.

Other than the boiling oil and artillery, there were many more things the defenders could have done.

For instance:

Creating Pitch fields right in front of the army. Then with all those archers light the fields and watch the orcs burn.

All they had to do was slather it up with peanut butter, Orcs hate peanut butter...

You did post a picture of yourself once (sitting on a bed, sweatshirt, socks, I think) and I think it does look a bit like you.

finally got to see the movie, would've seen it sooner if i didn't have to rely on my parents for a ride.....

I thought it was a pretty cool movie. I especially liked those dragons, and the fight between gandalf and the balrog. helms deep was a rainy mess of awesome battles and death!!!! :D

I actually overheard someone the other day when I went to lunch with my fiance trashing all of the Lord of the Rings books...I almost got up and dumped my soup on her lap.
