Kylilin
I learned today that I could hold a toothbrush with my toes and brush my teeth. It was a productive day.
Jabba The Hunt
Do you even know what a nuclear winter is? - clouds of dust, block out sunlight, plants die then animals die, then humans run out of food... A huge nuclear arsenel is just one possibly cause of a nuclear winter.

Irradiated fallout, which is a key piece of nuclear winter, cannot be produced by a volcano unless it is composed almost entirely of uranium. Since no such volcano exists, let alone in the rather small system in the Yellowstone region, it is not going to happen. And no such volcano exists that would COMPLETELY BLOT OUT THE SUN when it erupts. yes, there can be temporary climate change, such as what happened at krakatau and tambora. Tambora was the largest volcanic eruption known on Earth. It was rated a 7 on the Volcanic Explosivity Index. For comparison, the Mount Saint Helens eruption of 1980 was a 5. Mount Pinatubo in 1991, also a five, only caused redder sunrises and sunsets for most of the world. Krakatau was a 6 and created the loudest sound ever heard by man. Tambora, being the most powerful known, merely caused it to snow in the US in july 1815. It was called the year with no summer. Tambora released 40 cubic kilometers of ash. This happened when the caldera 4 kilometers across collasped and went boom. Compare this to the scope of a nuclear war. A volcano is simply incapable of causing nuclear winter (which is composed of different materials than the simple carbon ash of a volcano and is highly irradiated). Here is a handy reference: An asteroid slammed into the Yucantuan and blocks out the sun, causing the CT extinction event. asteroid impact = extinction event nuclear war = nuclear winter asteroid impact != nuclear winter If something that enormous was needed to block out the sun, a barely active volcano in Wyoming isn't going to block out the sun with irradiated smoke, steam, dirt, ash, and bits of metal on a global scale. Admiral Odin
Well if all of the Volcanoes in the world went boom at once then maybe but somehow I don't think that will happen. Speaking of which, a Volcanoe island somewhere in the Atlantic is supposed to sink back into the ocean sometime (the Volcanoe is not active but eventually a large hunk of rock on the slopes will break free and slip into the ocean. This would cause a massive tidal wave to hit the US in about eight hours.

edlib
I am surrounded by the Atlantic, right on the water, and would die instantly. If I did happen to be far enough inland to survive, then my house and everything I own would be washed away. I doubt there would be much left of the rest of Boston either. Hmmm...
