I bought my copy on Friday. After watching that video, I was never more excited and anticipated a game before like I am for this one. While watching it I literally had goose-bumps all over and a cool tingle up my spine.

This is something that I anticipated for a lot longer than the first press release three years ago. My friends and I have played hundreds of Star Wars pen and paper RPG through the years that we have volumes of work cataloged. And now we have the very first Star Wars video game RPG to be released in a couple of months. It sure does not look to be a disapointment. Lucasarts was indeed right on to have Bioware do this huge task in developing what will be the most highly scrutinized Star Wars project this side of the Prequal Trilogy.

I should put Galaxies in that catagory as it is also an RPG and a lot more ambitious than KOTOR. I've known so many people that have been clamoring for this sort of thing and now we have it. I'm personally looking forward more to KOTOR than Galaxies (only because of the time period and the ability to be a Sith, and of course Bioware) but Galaxies in not doubt at the top of my list once I get broadband.

I would like to thank Com and all the others who are responsible for this excellent site. You guys have kept me informed and entertained as we all await for this title to come out. You guys are fantastic! Keep up the good work! I look foward to interact with all the posters on this forum and find out the progress of your character in this game. Here is to KOTOR and everyone involved in making it happen!!!!

Hannibal, let it henceforth be known that you are the hero of 11/02/ 03.

Even 'tho I couldn't quite make out that much from the movie, what I did see looked absolutley brilliant. The enviroments looks very exciting, and the combat wasn't too shabby either. I have to agree with Gothic when I thank everyone here at the swknights.com site for keeping up up-to-date about the incredible RPG that this game will be.

Here's to you! [raises glass]

Thanks...

Yes we all hate the dreaded pay to play aspect to all the MMORPGs that are coming out now. Since its a continuous and ever evolving game my guess is that they just wanted some time of cash flow to support its servers. Or they simply wanted to milk the cow for all its worth. who knows? Not to get to indepth with this but can they realistically do without the fee?

I doubt they could. Imagine this game runs for 10 years and all the people that bought it for $50 are still playing it. They still have to maintain the servers and keep the story going. Even if they make a profit on sales of the game, at some point they'll reach a date where they start to lose money on maintaining the game.

So they have to charge a monthly fee.

And I have to stay so far away from these types of games it's like I'm in a different time zone.

That is what I figured. But why stay away from them? Can't afford them? Or is it the idea to continuously pay a fee is what bothers you?

I can afford them. It's just in the modern world I already pay so many things on a monthly basis I'd rather that horror not creep into the gaming part of my life.

Also the time(and money) it takes putting into a character and building them up only to eventually quit playing and having nothing to show for it... That's real life time I could be doing something else. Where as with KOTOR and other games I can play them a bunch of times, stop and then pick it up later anytime without worrying about getting my monthly fullfillment on the game. I think Galaxies will be a great game I just don't want to look back on my life 10 years from now telling people about the time me and some friends ambushed the Empire.

Very good point! I now have second thoughts about getting Galaxies. For instance I have a wife and a child. Two very big stikes against playing. Therefore, its difficult getting to play games on a daily basis. With Galaxies, I have to play practically on a daily basis in order to get my money's worth, not to mention building my character up to be consistant with all the fanatics with no lives. I wouldn't get anywhere if I would play for one month. Then pick it up again two months down the line. I would be squashed like a bug everytime I encounter someone that has been playing (level wise) a lot longer than I have. Which would be quite numerous. You are correct. Not only will money be invested but more importantly a huge part of your time will have to be devoted to this game. Money I can afford. Lots of time away from the real world I can not.

As an aspiring game designer, I try to expose myself to all different types of games, but most importantly, the ambitious ones. That way I can see where the ambitions succeeded and faild and learn from that. The whole experience does two things for me; helps me learn, and of course gives me the enjoyment of walking into town, dispatching a human character, and running away from all of the people who have never seen a jedi before. :D jk about the last part, but at least I have a little more to play for - and pay for.
