I just was playing Vice City at my friends house yesterday, and I must say it is an awesome game. I wish I had a PS2... Oh, well. I will try to find GTA3 for a low price around here...

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. It's a very, very good WWII game that has excellent SP and awesome MP. The graphics are better if you've got a better card (I could compare my laptop's graphics to my desktop's for proof) and you might get slowdown in certain scenes but it's still a very good game.

EDIT: When/if you finish Allied Assault, get the kick-ass expansion, Spearhead :D

The new Unreal Tournament 2003 is rather fun, but harsh to newbies online and it will eat your graphics card for breakfast.

something 4 MOH fans

Electronic Arts has announced its intent to bring two new Medal of Honor games to consoles beginning this fall with Medal of Honor Rising Sun. The two games will have overlapping stories featuring two brothers, Donny and Joe Griffin. The two are separated during a firefight, and the two games will follow the two brothers on their separate paths through World War II. Rising Sun will follow Joe, and both games are said to be focused on turning the tide of Japan's hold on the Pacific.

No, that was just really hard getting out of the U-Boat alive, but I am proud to say I got past it. No, it was after Normandy, I was working with under ground French resistance, got to this manison of Nazi's, and couldn't turn in time to shoot anything because the alarms and the German's gunfire made it so gosh darned laggy...

Oh well. I can't find GTA3 for a reasonable price, if you know what I mean. I will borrow the PS2 from my friend then and play that...

This sounds good. I can't wait for it. Do you know if it is also going to come out on the PC?

Finally I am going to kill some Jap's instead of Kraut's. And since it is also going to be in Japan that means that these guy are going to be Marines and not Army. It already sounds like a cool game. :D

I can't wait for that to come out now.

if it's a ps2, vice city is better than gta 3. although it's coming out 4 pc as well soon

Of course. I was playing that at his house last Sat. Never have played GTA3, but Vice City is better so far just because it's the 80s. Gotta love those giant cell phones and clothes!

Oh, and RatmJedi, I am all for killing some Japs instead of Krauts all the time (ummm, not racial here, just some WWII slang, so if this offends you, sorry... I am German anyhow, but still call 'em Krauts and Jerries...)

By the way, the army was in the Pacific to. Have you seen the Thin Red Line? Doesn't matter, they'll make you a Marine. :D Wish my PC could run it... :(

here's additional info 4 MOH

Rising Sun was announced last week for consoles, but there's more than one upcoming Medal of Honor game that's set in the South Pacific. The sequel to last year's extremely successful Allied Assault, Medal of Honor Pacific Assault will start during the first disastrous moments of Pearl Harbor and follow the path of a young soldier through the first two years of World War II in the Pacific theater.

The new first-person shooter has been in development since shortly after EA's Los Angeles studio completed the Spearhead expansion for Allied Assault in November, and thanks to sharing some preproduction work with Medal of Honor Rising Sun, the new PC game should be completed relatively quickly--by next January. While the two Pacific theater games follow completely different stories and have very different gameplay styles suited to their respective platforms, the eight months the EA team spent on Rising Sun's preproduction is coming in handy for the Pacific Assault team. The location research--which, for example, brought to the artists' attention the differences between the jungles of the South Pacific and those of Thailand--is being carried over directly, and some early Rising Sun assets like concept art and motion-capture animations are being used as well.

The EA LA team plans to follow Allied Assault's successful gameplay approach of combining scripted cinematic moments with slightly slower-paced action sequences, all of it enlivened by a healthy dose of historical authenticity. The key scene comparable to Allied Assault's portrayal of D-Day will be the first mission in Pearl Harbor, and we might expect that to be the first demo level we'll see. In the middle of the chaos, as innumerable Japanese planes tear into the anchored Pacific fleet, you'll play a part by saving lives, shooting down planes, and taking out torpedoes before they hit their targets. Still, there's no way you can turn the tide alone, and just maybe it's one of the torpedoes that got away from you that dealt the fatal blow to the USS Arizona.

As the game progresses, you'll see action all across the Pacific, including the major battles such as Guadalcanal. Missions often aren't fought alone, and to make for a few familiar faces there'll be a few squadmates that will stick with you as the story progresses. Another way the designers are thinking of reinforcing the impact of the Pacific war is by showing the main character in cutscenes--a first for a Medal of Honor game--to convey how he changes mentally and physically after months on the front lines. If the idea pans out, he'll go from being a green recruit to looking buff and battle-hardened, with the "thousand-yard stare" of a man who's seen plenty of action.

One of the new elements to Pacific Assault's design is that, like Rising Sun, many levels will feature multiple paths--not only multiple directions to approach a target but even a couple of targets to choose from. You might head one way to take out some tanks or another to ambush troops, but either way you'll have to deal with the other force at a later point. This doesn't mean the game will be nonlinear, and the paths will converge, at least in part so you won't ever miss the cool scripted sequences that helped make Allied Assault's single-player so memorable. The Pacific setting will also introduce a whole new arsenal to play with, as well as a fierce enemy, the unrelenting Japanese Imperial Army. As in Allied Assault, there will be a number of as-yet-undisclosed vehicles you'll get to ride in or control yourself.

A lot of new technology is going into Pacific Assault to make the planned gameplay possible. Although parts of the engine are still based on Quake III technology, the EA team has completely rewritten the renderer to make the game competitive with next year's visual standards. The engine will support a lot more objects onscreen to allow for dramatic scenes like Pearl Harbor, and the terrain engine has been redone to make way for large outdoor environments. There are also a number of new effects that are being prototyped, including an advanced water effect and a particle system that will be showcased by the flamethrower, a weapon most commonly used in the South Pacific fighting. The engine will also have to handle the special lighting characteristics of dense jungle and will have dynamic lighting that we'll see in nighttime sequences where friendly troops throw flares to expose enemies hidden in the darkness. Last but not least, the AI is being revamped to make the enemies behave in a more squadlike manner.

EA has laid the groundwork for spending a full tour in the Pacific. Both Pacific Assault and Rising Sun have Pacific theater sequels planned, for a total of four Pacific theater Medal of Honor games. Pacific Assault is still in the preproduction stage, so there's not yet anything solid to see of the game.

Well, I was downloading the demo for the first one at the time of posting that. I love it. Can't get off the ship on time though in the 3rd demo level...

I plan on getting it if I can find it in the store... Very spoofish names for organizations.

UNITY and H.A.R.M.

Then again, in the original Bond books, the author replaced Russia with... SPECTRE was it?

No...SPECTRE was the criminal organisation.

SMERSH was the Russians. ;)

I loved NOLF...and NOLF2's a great game too. A lot of people try and marry it up with the spoofiness of Austin Powers...but I don't see it myself. It has it's own sort of style and humour mixed up with much blood-letting. I loved the harpoon-gun in NOLF...for spearing people through the head, and nailing them to the walls of the sunken vessel.

Ooops, now I'm showing my Dark Side....Mwahahahaha!! :D

I'm no Bond buff.

In fact, I hate most of the movies. There are few that I can even watch, and only 3 or 4 I think are great.

I beat the ship level and now am in some Alpine one. Can't seem to figure out how to get across this ravine. Belt buclke doesn't work....
