Katarn07 Posted April 16, 2003 Share Posted April 16, 2003 Alright, I've gotta write a research paper about Iraqi Freedom. I have to write about the pros as to why we should invade. I thought it'd be an easy topic, and considering I have got the most notecards compared to my classmates (17) I guess it is easy to find info on. But I have hit a snag. I have run outta ideas as to why the US/ UK should invade Iraq. So far, I have got- 1 card on WMDs (Weapons of Mass Destruction) 2 quotes on the topic of weapons (Cheny, Blair) 1 card on the basic history of Iraq from the 60s to Desert Storm 4 cards on Desert Storm 2 cards on the past 10 years with the inspectors, Desert Fox, and UN sanctions 1 card on Iraqi capabilities 5 cards on Saddam Hussein (basic info, rise to power, presidency, ruling techniques) 2 cards on the Iraq-Iran War 1 card on the Iraq-Terrorism connection I need 30 cards by tomorrow! I have no clue what else to look up. Am I supposed to just keep expanding upon what I have gotten for the limited info stuff? I need 50 cards in the end, so what else should I look up? (this paper's thesis is 'why we should invade Iraq', so please do not share the anti-war views because they are really of no use to me. Do some cards on the Olympic Commitee and how the athletes were tourtured. (There was a Sports Illustraded article on this somewhere, I'll find the link) 2. Katarn07 Posted April 16, 2003 Author Share Posted April 16, 2003 I doubt they ever signed the Geneva-convention thing (that's why Japan got away with what they did in WWII) but should I make a card on their brutality in combat as well (suicide bombers, gas, illegal POW videos, etc)? I think that kind of fighting is just really stupid. As for the citizens, I wrote a little about them in Saddam's profile (under his ruling techniques) and I have no clue what you're talking about the Olympics, so linkage would be nice. XERXES, I have gotten their relations with the "West" and Israel, and how they betrayed Iran when they invaded them. I want to get more, but I can't get up CQ Researcher on my home PC and they have loads of articles dating back to before Desert Storm on this whole topic... I am trying to get more info on that war with Iran. I know there is alot more I can write about on that. All I have is a broken treaty, gas, US helping Iraq, and a cease fire being called by UN pretty much... Also, do you think I can put some stuff that has been uncovered to justify why we went in since this conflict is coming to a close? *** I'm up to 28, that's including bib cards (she never said they don't count as part of the 30 cards...) I have gotten info on the Ba'ath Party (Saddam's ploitical alignment) and everything they stand for. Just need 2 more. I have found a whole load of garbage about the sports, and didn't realize that was the story about Usad Hussein. The_One Posted April 16, 2003 Share Posted April 16, 2003 - They were in breech of UN Resolution 1441, and many others before. However, 1441 never authorised the US/UK to go to war. Even though Iraq was in violation of that particular resolution, there was no "green light" to war. You could use this a contributing factor as to why we should have gone to war. - Going to war would mean control over much of the Middle Eastern oil reserves, boosting the economy and having a foothold in the Middle East.
