RocketPack Jack
I was on the JKII posts recently, and i came across a guy who said the SW movies dont have any depth? Do u agree with this?
Evad
No not at all. I think that guy is an idiot. The stories are well developed, the movies have humor, tradgedy, love, and action. In my opinion, the Star Wars saga is the greatest epic of our time, and of all time.
setsuko
Well.... depends. Really. I mean, compared to the average Hollywood movie, it has depth. Yes, I do believe the last two movies lacks the depth of the classics, but that is another subject. However... If you compare it to a really good drama, especially european or asian ones, it is as deep as a duck pond. I mean, even a humouristic movie like 'Trainspotting' has more depth. It doesn't portrait chaos like 'Punch Drunk Love' does. It's doesn't show us misery like 'Happiness' does, and it is not 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'. The love stories are already shallow before we compare it to one of the master's works, Kar-Wai Wong's 'Dut yeung nin wa' (In the Mood for Love), one of the goddamn best love drama's ever. Simply put: anything 'deep' that SW can show up, somebody does a hundred times better. However, that isn't really a bad thing, because SW is not a drama. It's not supposed to have multiple layers that you carefully peel away, every time you watch the movie. SW's soul is adventure, and that is why we see it and enjoy it. So, when I get ready to puke when I see the painfully stale and badly written "romance" between Anakin and Amidala, I watch 'Raise the Red Lantern' instead. And when I think that the character dynamics are really simplistic, I watch 'Ran'. But then, at the end of the day, no movie has ever given us the same combination of good vs evil, the attitude of a Western movie, epic lightsaber duels and insane amounts of aliens. Oh, and the best dogfighting scenes ever. That is why I like Star Wars. Do they lack depth or not? Hard to say. Put it beside 'Maid in Manhattan', it's Dostojevskij. Put it beside 'The Autumn Sonata' by Bergman, it's Ricki Lake. But no matter what you compare it to, it is Star Wars, and that's what count, isn't it? Jackrabbit
::gives a side-long glace to set:: Yeah, I think they have depth.
c_afro919
I think they have depth, now do the new ones make sense? I think not, much of EP1+2 have been critisized not because of lack of depth but lack of any sense.
Exar_reborn
I think that they do have the basic storyline but I usually look to the fact books for the real inside detail and content.

Sunshine Badass
Oh, Really Set? Why not another entertaining LONG-WINDED essay or opinion on the matter. PROVE to me Qui-gon put on weight. :D
setsuko
Look at the photo's from the beggining of the screening for the role, and the last footage of the filming. All those milky way bars surely made their marks on his hunky body, making it chunky. And chunky jedi make poor ghost.
Sunshine Badass
Well, as I remember, Yoda was a little portly towards the end of Luke's training, too. Ate a few too many Snack Packs from Luke's bag, and HE got to be a ghost!!!
RocketPack Jack
Do all jedi float away, or is it just masters?
setsuko
But Yoda was very short, an escaped science experiment crossbreed of monkeys and cucumbers gone horribly wrong. No matter the amount of whipped cream he poured down his gullet, I doubt he weighted 1/4th of Qui-Gon when he croaked. Whipped cream and chocolate pudding. Sounds like Yoda, allright. setsuko
I didn't double post. I would never sink to that. However, my second post was a completely different post, and it included a quote from a completely different post than the first. So they didn't belong together. So they parted, and the second one got a little flat of it's own. Now they share custody, and see each other each saturday.

That is the funniest thing i've ever read. I'm laughing so hard right now that I'm crying. I voted for "no" because I thought it was regarding the movies for SWG- don't I feel stupid. Marge regarding Homer and Bart in the "hold cell" @ Itchy & Scratch Land. Marge: "I wish there was a hole in the wall that I could stick my head into" Gestapo-like-guards: "OKAY throw her in the Hole."
