Hmm, well I guess that answers that question.

I'm sure if George went back and re-did the moves that they would look newer then these movies do.

Also, remember that he wasn't planning on a prequel at the time of making the OT, so he probabaly didn't worry about making it look real futuristic so he could make the PT look less futuristic.

:p

He just used what he had. And that's all he had at the time in money and technology.

Not bad if I say so myself. ;)

Cause if George Lucas made a movie that didn't look good with incredible ships and weapons people would say he was behind the times.

It's a Catch 22. He uses the technology and it's a little unbelievable but if he doesn't he's behind. I honestly think we're lucky he decided to make the movies because when you come from making classics there's no place to go but down.

Ownership got transferred to the fans with all the fan fiction, novels and games. There's way more non-movie SW lore than there is movie data(some of it's good-not much :)).

Actually, I've heard it said that George planned that the galaxy would go through somewhat of a repression when the empire is in power, with very little technological advancement being made. This probably includes a limit of all the cool gadgets in the first movies being made.

Both George Lucas and Rick McCallum have said that the "newer" and "sleeker" look of the Prequels was intentional. It is to help demonstrate that before the Empire, the galaxy was experiencing a "golden era" alomost like that of a renassaince. Once Palpatine and the empire took over, however, they perverted and ravaged the technology for their own purposes.

Instead of grace and style (Quality) the empre went with speed and cost effectiveness (Quantity), which is just one of the ways that Lucas shows the mentality of the Empire, simply a war machine more interested in numbers than people, ideals, culture or society. Similar to the use of a giant "faceless" enemy through the use of Stormtroopers. Many images and designs throughout the Star Wars movies and intentional and more so, symbolic. Keep you eyes open and learn anew. Or as Master Yoda once said...

"You must unlearn what you have learned!"

:D
