I bet there are like a thousand of these floating around but I'll just start my own thread. First of all I would like to ask you people, Do you like Japanese Anime? Is so which shows are you favorite? Well my favorite is Cowboy Bebop. Which I want on DVD when it comes out. I also like the good-old Kenshin anime.

Several friends of mine are big nuts over it. One has gone so far as to learn a good deal of Japanese...he's pretty crazy when it comes to anime...but is about the biggest authority on it I'll ever find. I personally used to watch some Anime like Gundam Wing, Tenchie, DBZ, and various others...but nothing special.

:D

Well, Cowboy Bebop has been out for a while on DvD, Vessen (I've had it for atleast 6 months), so I suggest you get it immediately if not sooner. The actual movie is coming to theaters in September I think, but you can get the Jap version off the internet (buy or d/l, your choice).

What are my favorites? Well, I tend to like them all. My top 5 would have to be Neon Genesis: Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, which I'm watching right now, Hellsing, and Blood, which is a movie.

Neon Genesis is an anime that I think all anime lovers will like, but not the casual watcher. It has kind of a weird storyline, but it's deep, with deep characters. Cowboy Bebop, you know, is a great anime for everybody. I has a good storyline, great character development, and the right blend of action and comedy. Outlaw Star has a good storyline and cool characters. I would say it's a mixture between a "realistic" anime, like Cowboy Bebop (albeit, in the future), and a goofy anime. It's a good mixture though, and I think it might be my next favorite (my sidepic is the main character, Gene Starwind).

Hellsing and Blood are both vampire animes. Hellsing is about this ancient, powerful vampire who "works" for the Hellsing academy, exterminating other vampires. Blood is about...well, I'm not sure. It's only a movie, and I don't have any background story. All I know is a 16(?) year old girl kills hideous monsters with a katana. Both of these have an awesome combination of animation and CGI, and both are full of sweet action scenes.

::cough::

I used to like DBZ. It was the first anime I watched, and I thought it was awesome. After I've seen all these other animes, though, I hate DBZ. Especially since they started writing in crap, but that's besides the point.

So, those are my top 5. Those aren't the only ones I've seen though :). ::looks at watch:: I'm short for time right now, so I'll just list off what I have at my fingertips. I'll put the language next to them, because lets face it; most anime is better in it's original language. The list is comprised of a lot of different genres. I suggest you look them up on the internet before you buy or d/l them, to see what will interest you.

Ah My Goddess! - Eng

Blood - Eng

Bubblegum Crisis 2040 - Jap

Well, I guess that's it. I'll post again if I think of anything else :D.

Well, i haven't seen many but some of my favourites are Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Techno Man and DBZ. There are lots of other kids cartoons and stuff which are ok and they can be pretty funny. But anyway, the who animie thing started for kids in Australia i think when pokemon came out for the first time. Before that, techno man was on but they didn't air it for long. But i think it's a great thing.

First, with Blood, I think you refer to 'Blood: the last vampire'. It's nicely drawn (got a few anime awards for it), and a nice watch, though nothing to watch twice. Truthfully, I must be the least interested person of my kind when it comes to anime; I'm a japanophile, and I draw cartoons. Yet, I'm not at all gaa-gaa about anime. Partly because good anime is hard to come by in Europe. Partly because it often doesn't satisfy my need when it comes to culture. I don't know why, but it really doesn't suit me, which is weird, since there's a lot of manga out there that has a very unique flavour to it. The day I find an anime of Vagabond, though, I'll be getting it.

To get it out of my system; I hate Neon Genesis: Evangelion. Almost as much as Janet Jackson, but only almost. It's drawing style appalls me, I can't stand animations where a conversation is made up of two people standing absolutely still, with only their mouths moving, and the two first reason to hate it made it impossible to penetrate the plot, so that really doesn't help. I don't say it is very much possible that it is a good show. However, I'll never be able to tell, since you'd have to tie me down to a chair like in 'A Clockwork Orange' to make me find out.

Also, I hate DBZ. I guess I get about as much pleasure out of watching an episode as an ephileptic gets out of a seizure. After all, it pretty much looks the same. "Isn't it cool when that dude jumps up in the air, blazes yellow for like, ten minutes, fire off some jibberish monologue and then shoots some kinda energy ray at this other dude?" "No."

I like Akira. Partly because of the magnificient soundtrack, and partly because I love the manga. Same goes for Ghost in the Shell, though it is a tad 'light' compared to the books. Oh well, that is to be expected, of course.

"But hey, setsuko, you're so dull and says that only Magritte and Dostojevskij is art. Bull****!" Yes, I agree. It is a lot more complicated than that. For instance, I could never expect that a show so totally bizarre, chauvinistic, and childish as Slayers! could get my attention. But it has. Oh, it has. After finding it by fluke, it has gotten me to shout "Diiiii-raguuuuun-slaave!" on far to many drunken nights for it to be counted. I know, I know, it is not a work of cinematic renaissance, it is not deep, it is not 'right', but I guess it caught me at an awkward time, and has stayed in my system since.

It can be the fact that the girl always, always turns every town she visits into mayhem previously unheard of. Yup. I'll buy that.

I forgot about Akira. I've only seen it once, and I didn't really get it (it was around the same time I watched DBZ...a while ago). I have to watch it again because my friends don't stop talking about it. I'm a wiser man now, I think I'll be able to handle it.

Slayers I want to see. I'm a fan of pretty much all anime, so if I've heard of it, it usually ends up in my collection. We'll have to talk about it sometime set, when you're drunk :).

I can't really say anything about NG:E. Like I said, most anime freaks like it, most casual watchers don't. You'll have to decide for yourself.

And, I just bought a new anime called Argentosoma. It's kind of slow, but once you get into it it's good. I give it a 7 our of 10.
