Is there anything cooler?

The eighties. Oh, please God no. Spare me the blank, etherized horror. :D

Battlestar Galactica was a product of the seventies!!! Don't you befoul the name of my favorite camp sci-fi teevee show by associating it with the same decade that brought us 'GEAR UP' and 'FRANKIE SAY' tee-shirts. :dozey: Girls wore dog collars and boys wore make-up. Michael Jackson was considered a role model. Where do the smooth-talking Starbuck and heroic Captain Apollo fit into that framework? They do not.

Galactica: 1980 was aired in (*sigh*) 1980...and was prophecy of the ten dreary years to come. But it was only a poor shadow of the original series.

I still maintain that the two films they re-did and released in theaters were fine examples of sci-fi. The original three-part pilot was done into the movie Battlestar Galactica, and Mission: Galactica was also cobbled out of three of the better episodes. Mission: Galactica is a story that should appeal to all of us carrier-based starfighter pilots, being essentialy a two-hour running battle that's all strategy, capital ships versus fighter strikes, etc. :) Note: you do have to have a sense of humor when John Colicos overplays Baltar, and when the special effects shots repeat themselves...but it's *worth* it.

Actually, they turned Starbuck into a girl:

ep0202.jpgAnd a cute one too.

Kara "Starbuck" Thrace, in her late 20s to early 30s, is a loner, which makes her an oddity among the Galactica’s tight-knit crew of pilots. She’s tough and ballsy with a certain worldliness. She’s as undisciplined and rebellious out of the cockpit as she is calculating and precise in it. Her mouth has definitely held back her career. Not fond of Colonel Paul Tigh, the ship’s Executive Officer, she enjoys both taunting him and beating him at cards. A take-charge woman who runs around the ship in a jogging bra and shorts, who might be attracted to Lee Adama, Kara is a warrior spoiling for a fight, and she gets her chance at battle when the Cylons attack. Forced to fly an antiquated fighter, Kara soon learns that the "modern" spacecraft have been infiltrated by a Cylon computer virus, and that only older fighters can survive in combat. Lucky, smart, and tough, Kara soon finds herself the point woman in Adama’s efforts to fight back against the Cylons. But when Adama and President Roslin agree to make a run for it, Kara must use her battle-honed skills not to fight the enemy, but to defend the fragile nucleus of humanity carried aboard the Galactica to an unknown future.
Coming soon, in Galactica 2003

(Could be half-decent on its own, but whether or not it lives up to the original remains to be seen. It'll almost certainly be better that that Galactica 1980 feldercarb.)

IIRC Battle of the Planets was also from the late 70s. It's just listed among the current 80s revival.

I grew up watching the Lakers vs. Celtics Epic. Magic vs Bird almost every year for the title, and my beloved Knicks in lottery land. Then the "Bad Boys" Pistons took over as the best team. And I remember seeing Michael Jordan tearing the basketball world to pieces and remaking it in his own image. It was a time when the dunk contest was worth watching, Jordan vs. Dominique in the best dunk contest of all time.

And let's not forget Bird dominating the 3-point shooting contest. I forgot the year, but the image of Bird taking his last shot, then pointing a finger in the air as the ball was coming down and into the basket is still indeliably engraved in my sports memory.

Thundering across the stars, to save the universe from the Monster Minds! Jayce searches for his Father, to unite the magic Root and lead his Lightning League to victory over the changing form of Saw Boss! Wheeled Warriors explode into battle! Lightning Strikes!

Oh yeah! I remember all too well. I used to watch it in french, it was called "Jayce et les conquérant de la lumière" (Jayce and the conquerors of light)

The intro song is the best! In English and French (The French one is better, or maybe I think that way because it`s the first one I heard). I even have the mp3 back at home.

It went something like this:

SAUVE L'UNIVERS

OMG! I still remember perfectly after all these years! I`m not too sure about the english version though...

There's a power that comes from deep inside of you...

I think Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors was the first french cartoon to be a big hit in America. (51% french and 49% japanese to be exact...)

I also knew Pole Position and Pooples but I hardly watched them...

There's a power that comes from deep inside of you.

Every day you're reachin' for the light,

And you know there's a long, long way ahead of you,

But when your wheels get you there,

Things will turn out right!

[repeat]

Chance keep 'em turnin'

Don't stop rollin'

The fire is on,

Wheeled Warriors!

B-b-b-battle drums burnin'

Wheels movin'

Wheeled Warriors.

Wheeled Warriors!

[/repeat]

(I have an MP3 :D )

And i maintain that SawBoss would've made an awesome Decepticon.

Hey FB, ever watched "Today`s Special" ?

Yup.

Anybody heard of Goldorak?

Yeah, but we didn't get it where I grew up. I do remember Tranzor Z (i.e., the dubbed version of Mazinger Z). I saw a Goldorak episode on tape once, IIRC, but I was about five at the time, so I remember very little.

Gee, and I thought I was the only one with that sorta mp3... but as a true Canadian I have it in English AND French :D

I never thought of Saw Boss being a Decepticon... Could he look like one? He`d be cool but maybe he wouldn`t fit in because he`s like 90% chlorophyl... And he would have to overtrow Megatron because I can`t imagine Saw Boss taking orders from anyone...

What we need is a Decepticon--Wheeled Warriors Rumble...

Tranzor Z?! What kind of a name is that for Mazinger Z?! Nevermind, he isn`t important because Goldorak can kick Mazinger Z`s arses anytime.

I still have the Goldorak movie at home...

Tranzor... pfff, preposterous!

Anybody ever watched Samurai Pizza Cats??

Sukachii (Blue) is the coolest

I was thinking more of SawBoss' vehicle form (which I used to have as a toy [and still might, stuffed into a closet somewhere]). And I know I still have the accessories --in fact I was wondering where they came from :roleyess:

And I was thinking of a Decepticon who ended up on another planet, much like Deathsaurus or Jhiaxus. I can see SawBoss happily running his little pocket-empire, safely out of the way of Megatron, Shockwave, or Galvatron. Heck, he probably left Cybertron with his minions just to get away from them.

We know from Beast Machines that TF "colonies" assume alt-modes from their surroundings. Possibly SawBoss's ship ended up on the same uninhabited forest-world Botanica would eventually colonize (as seen in flashback in Beast Machines). Since Bossy was a 'con and not a Maximal, his alt-mode would remain mechanical (instead of being a "plantformer" like Botanica).

EDIT: Pic won't work.

EDIT II: Pic still won't work.

Go here and scroll down. :disaprove

And SPC used to be on in my hometown, for a few weeks, at some ungodly hour of the morning, with no advertising.

Holy cr*p! I was in the exact same website 3 days ago...

Very interesting Theory but there is one important detail you forgot. Supposing that SawBoss's ship ended up on some uninhabited forest-world would completly tear to pieces one important fact: SawBoss was created by Jayce`s father.

No prob:

Just render the Lightning League as Autobots, and impose Jayce's identity on the Armed Force. Heck, the LL vehicles would also make great TFs.

Jayce's "father" = Primus, the "God" of Transformers, and thus "father" of SawBoss as well.

And this would still be a "unique" situation, 'cause most Decepticons aren't Primus-worshippers (if they were, they wouldn't be likely to attack the Prime, who is Primus' Heir and bearer of His spark [the Matrix Crystal]).

'Sides, I'm used to tearing apart continuities. In my TF universe, the HeadMasters, MicroMasters, and Pretenders didn't exist, and the Target- and PowerMasters are completely different.
