When asked about NPCs(town population not party members) reactions to fighting Chris Priestly said:

The time of Knights of the Old Republic was a rough and dangerous time. There were many Jedi and Sith all over and battles were much more common. So NPCs are used to seeing fighting going on. But even so they are not stupid enpugh to walk into the middle of a battle between 6 LIght/Dark Jedi. Some NPCs will flee the area. Some will stand and watch (the fights are pretty cool to see after all). Some will stand around and wait impatiently for one side to win so they can continue on with their daily routine. And sometimes they may even join in and help you fight.

When asked about solo mode he said:

The characters you are not with? Which do you mean? I will answer both examples I can think of.

There will be party NPCs that are with you, but not directly under your control. So you are exploring with Carth and Mission, but have solo mode on. While you are off exploring Carth and Mission will wait for your return or for you to summon them to you. (By this, if you turn off solo mode your NPCs will come to you by the shortest path possible). If they are attacked while you are away they will defend themselves and attack back using their AI.

There will also be party NPCs that are not with you as you can only take 2 at a time. These NPCs will wait for you in special locations, like the Ebon Hawk for example.

and he made up an example:

Ok I'll make up an example.

The PC, Mission and Carth are exploring a Sith Base trying to find a missing Republic soldier. The base is full of Troopers, Droids and security features (like mines, computer access panels and locked doors). After looking around a bit you come to a room that has a group of 8 Sith Tropers in it. Rather than fight them you decide to hang back and let Mission sneak past them. So you turn on solo mode. You hide the PC and Carth in an unused storage room and turn on Missions stealth skill. She is now invisible and sneaks past the troopers without being seen. Once she is safe you turn stealth off and contine down the hallway. She comes to a door and opens it to reveal the Republic trooper, but also a Sith Assault Droid that was guarding him! The droid spots Mission and starts to attack her. She will be killed by the droid if she goes one on one with it. So eiterh you can turn solo mode off and have the PC and Carth come to help (but they will have to fight their way past the 8 Troopers) or you can have Mission run back to Carth and the PC (but she will lead the Assault droid to them and probably also the 8 troopers.)

I bet this will lead to some excellent dialogue with the people who see your battles.

Six on six battles.

:p

Also, the solo mode sounds very interesting being able to turn it on and off whenever you need it. Especially since if you had it on your NPC's would still level up with you.

Thanks for the info, Hannibal. ;)

Thanks very much Hannibal. Lots of interesting details there. My favourite was this:

Some will stand and watch (the fights are pretty cool to see after all).

Somehow I don't think they would look so cool from so close. Force users of both sides seem to destroy a lot of their local area in any fight, even when they are not fighting each other.

I think they would look extremely close up close. More detail could be seen.

I haven't seen too much destruction in lightsaber fights, excluding the Luke vs. Vader fights. DoTF didn't have anything large destroyed and the things that were destroyed in AoTC were destroyed mainly because the director wanted a certain mood. :p

The devs also said that the lightsaber doesn't always do damage, but they didn't state when it did. So I don't think if you are dueling close to a wall then you will leave burn marks. But I'm not for sure. ;)

Why would they break stuff if they weren't fighting each other?

:D

It's not 6 on 6. It's 3 on 3 for a total of 6.

Someone misunderstood.

Maybe 3 other NPC's around you may join the fight. However, I would say you probably wouldn't be able to control them like you can with your party members.

Something I found interesting....

Chris Priestly---

Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution are the "combat" abilities. They give you better damage, beter chance at hitting an opponent and higher Hit Points.

Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma are the "Force" abilities. They improve your skills, increase the amounts of Force powers you get, and your success when using them.

Choosing where you put your ability points will help determine what sort of Jedi you become.

That gives me a clear idea of how I need to dibby out points now. :)
