RenikDelan
No, this isnt a question about eveyones preferred deoderant. I'm actually interested about creating a clear wall. Or actually to be more specific a wall that is your average wall, but with a clear horizontal strip across the center of your standard texture (the goal is to be able to see into the next room). And before I continue, let me state that your standard breakable glass is not an option. This cant be something that can be damaged. I would also like to make doors (preferably with the same format as stated above, but just an entirely clear door works too). I know how to make doors, but the clear aspect is what this map is hinging on. This is my first (MP) map, so I've been relying heavily on the tutorials by Bubba and RichDiesal, and for all your help, I thank you for your hard work for newbies like me. -=IJ=- Renik
Emon
Well do you know how to create the geometry needed for that? As in, cutting holes in the wall and stuff? Just fill the slits in the wall with a glass texture, but don't make it a func_glass, and it won't break.
RenikDelan
yeah i know how to cut holes in walls... or rather to be perfectly honest Ive seen how its done in the tutorial but havent done it first hand yet (plan on doing it in a bit actually). Where is there a glass texture anyway? -=IJ=- Renik
Shotokan
Under the "common" tab under the textures selection I think...
Lil Killa
The glass texture is in the "common" texture set. you can use the normal glass texture as a clear wall or door. it will only break if u turn it into a funk_breakable or func_glass.
RenikDelan
so if i wanted a wall with a clear horizontal strip down the middle, id create three brushes? The bottom solid, middle glass, top solid? Also, can I make one side of the brush glass, and the other side like a mirror? As in a one-way mirror? Thanks in advance... -Renik

Originally posted by RenikDelan Also, can I make one side of the brush glass, and the other side like a mirror? As in a one-way mirror? Make the glass brush by texturing it with system/nodraw_solid first, then texture the faces you want the player to see as glass with common/glass (there are also several glass variants in the 'common' and 'tests' texture sets). If you want to texture one side with something solid, you can (even a normally opaque texture such as doomgiver/basic). If you want a mirror, then cover the side you want reflective with common/mirror or tests/mirror, I forget which is correct. Then create a misc_portal_surface entity within 64 grid units of the mirror surface.
RenikDelan
I followed you completely up until the misc_portal part... guess I'll get the rest of it done (and read the tutorials more) before i get to that... -=IJ=- Renik
